I have been a Customer of ADT for nearly 7 years. They were once a respected company. Unfortunately the past 2 years have been terrible. The system is unreliable and support terrible. It took over a year to get ADT to update my address! The billing is often wrong and if you need to talk to a real person you're out of luck! They don't even place a support phone number on their bill! I finally had it with them and tried to disconnect service...again they make that painful. I saw they have new ownership which explains their incompetence. With a security system you should be abto get real, human support quickly. You won't get that with this company. It's a shame these companies prioritize bottom line profits to line executives pockets over providing a supported product.
Got sucked into a 3 year contract
Got sucked into a 3 year contract. The price was supposed to be $64/mo. Then they raised the price to $74/mo. THEY broke the price terms and my trust. Then the camera went out. When my husband called, they did something on their end and like magic it was working again. It went out again, I was told to delete some of the saved videos, which I did. At that point I was told another tech person would call me. They call and start talking about me waving safety issues and then told I would have to climb up and move my camera. I say no, Im not climbing a ladder in 40-50 mph winds to move my camera. She says, we will send a tech out for $59.99. NOPE! At this point I was really irritated. Raising the price, not even offering to lower it when I pointed the contract out and NOW saying they would charge ME to fix THEIR equipment. I am DONE with this HORRIBLE company. DO NOT use ADT!
ADT Runs Scams
If I could give negative number of stars, it would be minus 100. ADT run scams. I was lured into an expensive one year contract and when contract was up for renewal I made multiple calls letting them know that I am not going to renew this contract and and asked to cancel my account, but they were continuously billing me accruing debt on an expired contract and then sent collectors after me. One collector left me along after my dispute letter and they have sent another one. I got a call from their customer service to resolve this issue only after I filed complaint with BBB.
Don't use
Don't use! You'll be better off buying your own security camera and system. I have used them for years and all they do is scam. Moved into my new house only for them to recharge me for the same equipment. One of my cameras been down for a month and they want me to pay to have a tech come out for the camera not working due to no fault of my own!
Merged instead of transferred service, stringing me along re: refund
I sold a house in September 2022 that had an active ADT system. I called to transfer the service to my new house, as one does. I purchased a full new system with cameras, Ring doorbell, glass break detectors, window and door sensors, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and monitoring. It was not cheap.
Fast forward to November 2024. My debit card was compromised and had to be cancelled, so I set about changing all my autopay stuff to the new card when I got it in December. Looking at my ADT billing, I noticed my old address was still on the account. I thought, well that's odd. Let me just call them real quick and make sure I'm not seeing what I think I'm seeing. Sure enough from October 2022 until now I've been paying for both houses, meaning they never actually transferred the service. They just added the new house to my account. Now, I know I should've checked the invoices, but they put me on autopay out of the gate so I didn't do that. Plus their invoices online are not the easiest to interpret. So they put in the cancellation in December 2024 and assured me id be refunded all the payments I made for service at the old house. No problem, right? Wrong.
When I say I've talked to 10 different people in 5 different departments since then, I'm not exaggerating. Each one assured me I just needed to wait for the cancellation to process, it takes 30 days, blah blah blah. Everyone said they saw the mistake, assured me it would be corrected, and asked for my patience. It's March 9, 2025 and I have yet to see a dime. The female agent I spoke with in January even tried to get me to sign up on a program to reduce the monthly cost, but the catch was that I couldn't cancel for 5 years or I'd owe the balance of the contract. Not today, Satan! I would say she almost got me, but she didn't. I was a hard no. This probably should've been a red flag that they never intended to to correct this error in the first place and wanted to eliminate the cancellation risk.
On Thursday, 3/6/2025, I spoke with Leshaun (I might be spelling her name wrong) who was with a corporate escalations department (that I did not ask the relocation agent to transfer me to). She said there was no record of me transferring the service (what?! Then we that did literally every previous agent I spoke to see so clearly?!) and she'd have to listen to the call to determine the next steps but not today because she was busy. She said she'd listen to it Friday morning and call me back. She did not call me back, although she did give me her extension which I wrote in a notepad on my work computer that proceeded to die and require replacement on Friday afternoon. Because of course. So now I have no way to get back to her and frankly, I'm so tired of repeating my situation to agent after agent only to be blind transferred, lied to, attempted bait-and-switched, and put off that I don't want to call again.
So here I am, hoping someone at ADT with the ability to fix this immediately (that's the most important part) will see this and do the right thing. To be clear, I will call again if not.

I wouldn’t recommend getting ADT for your service, when something happens and they set up a schedule between 1-5 and they tell you that they gonna be late and never show up, done messed up my whole afternoon waiting.
ADT Scam with Google cameras
First hand ADT sells Google camera which they don’t monitor! The camera is for 179.99 and they charge $400 upwards! Whats worst is that they charge a recurring monthly fee of 59.99 for selling thoese cameras which they don’t monitor! If you buy the cameras independently you wil get the same google home app from google team that make that camera at no additional cost!

I have had ADT for many years. Had a few issues, but this year they increased. I had a technician scheduled, didn't show up because he was never scheduled, as I later found out. I asked for the technician Brandon, who did great work and a provides great customer service, again another scheduled time for him...same thing occurred. Spoke to a manager, Marcus in Boca Raton, who definitely requires more customer service training. Spoke over me and was rude. After this occurred more than once (conversations with Marcus), my cost per month for service was increased. Retaliation? I have read many reviews on other review sites, mainly about the lack of customer service from the phone numbers to call online. Marcus won't share who is his supervisor!? Do I need to buy ADT stock to be heard and treated with respect?

ADT is scamming this unemployed senior…
ADT is scamming this unemployed senior citizen. I called to cancel my service many months ago only to be convinced to simply put the account on hold and no charges would be due. The next month I was still charged but then I called and got the credit. Months later another call with charges but they were dropped and I informed them that had nothing had changed and to keep it on hold or cancel the account. I had several calls over a period of months, each time a credit and another hold. Finally, I told them to just cancel the account. Now, they are trying to extort payment from an unemployed senior citizen. Unforgivable. AARP - Add to your list of scams!
I bought a DR HORTON SMART HOME
I bought a DR HORTON SMART HOME. It came with the security system. I was told to call ADT to activate my security system. An ADT Technician came to my house and talked with my daughter. He convinced her that our security system was not compatible with ADT. THIS wasn’t true. My neighbors did not have their equipment replaced. One of my neighbors paid $150.00 to activate their system that came with the house. This was a scam. I’m completely dissatisfied that this happened.
ADT Not Monitoring System
I've been an ADT (formerly Protection 1) customer for over a decade. In April of 2024, ADT lost the ability to monitor my system. This basically means that although I was paying for monitoring services, ADT could not and did not monitor my system. In February of 2025, my alarm went off in the middle of the night, and ADT did not call me or dispatch law enforcement. The next day I called ADT, who confirmed they hadn't been monitoring my system for the last 10 months and then tried to upsell me on a new system, stating this would fix this issue. I was agreeable to the new system but insisted I was credited the amount of money I paid for monitoring since I had paid that amount for 10 months without actually receiving service. It's been 27 days since I first talked to someone at ADT, and the issue is still not resolved. A few weeks after the initial report, I was contacted by ADT to confirm my physical address since they're system showed two different addresses. I've never moved or transitioned services anywhere. It was also highly frustrating that they didn't even know the address where the service was being paid for. I filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau in the amount of $448.07 (the amount I paid over 10 months) and then was told by the person that I was working with that because I filed the claim, they couldn't assist me anymore. After I replied to that email, I got a phone call from a different ADT employee offering me $300, which I declined. He then offered me $350, which I also declined since I paid $448.07 for monitoring services where my system was not monitored. Every email to them takes a week to respond to, and the high-pressure sales atmosphere is just to squeeze every dollar out of their consumers. It's truly unfortunate. The scary thing is that for 10 months, my system went unmonitored, and they never called me or sent anyone out to fix it. It just sat there. I was lucky that my alarm was set off by a massive windstorm in February, and it wasn't an intruder or some other potential life-and-death situation because ADT was not monitoring my system and would have never dispatched law enforcement to my home. I have written proof from ADT they they lost connection with my signal, but they refuse to reimburse me for the 10 months I paid them, thinking my alarm system was being monitored. Trust these other people and stay away from ADT - the safety of your family depends on it.
Update: Nothing has changed. ADT tells consumers to reach out to a customer care email, which does nothing except look like they are working on resolving problems. I followed the instructions a week ago and never heard back. Be warned.
Predatory contracts, terrible service
I am completely dissatisfied with my security services, and feel blatantly disrespected by your sales and service teams. I can't afford to cancel my contract, so I will continue to pay monthly for unwanted, useless services. This is a ball and chain to a small business and a notable waste of my spending, that could otherwise be reinvested in my business and my staff. I signed a predatory contract I did not fully understand, and I will warn every small business and individual considering ADT to avoid your company. I am shocked at how unresponsive, dismissive, and ultimately rude your representatives are. Your corporation is not a friend to small business.

Update, my wife and I have had ADT for 5(!) months. ADT has increased our monthly bill which goes against the contract that we originally signed. I believe that a security company by the name of Vivant has much BETTER reviews and a very reliable company. We couldn’t be any less happy with our experience with ADT.

If I could give zero stars, I would. My experience with ADT has been nothing short of fraudulent, deceptive, and a complete nightmare.
ADT misrepresented their system capabilities when they sold me a security package over the phone. I was explicitly promised that my cameras would record continuously. The installer confirmed this—yet failed to set up the system properly. He rushed the job, told me to reinstall a camera myself after leaving, and I quickly discovered that it could not be hardwired as promised.
When I tried to contact the installer to fix the issue or cancel the contract, I was met with silence. After multiple failed attempts, he finally responded and promised a service call—but never showed up. By the time I realized the deception, my three-day cancellation window had expired. Then, without my consent, ADT cancelled my account and charged my credit card $3,800.
Since then, I have made over 50 attempts to resolve this issue, calling ADT’s so-called customer service. I’ve been transferred from department to department, hung up on, and given the runaround. It is painfully clear that ADT deliberately makes it impossible to cancel, dispute charges, or even speak with someone who can actually help.
At this point, I am left with two accounts I did not want and an unauthorized $3,800 charge—with zero recourse other than legal action. ADT has violated multiple consumer protection laws, including:
✅ Breach of Contract – Price changes on installation day, failure to provide continuous recording as promised, and faulty equipment with no resolution.
✅ Fraudulent Misrepresentation – ADT’s sales rep blatantly lied about the system’s capabilities to get me to sign up.
✅ Florida's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act (FDUTPA) Violations – Misrepresentation, unfair charges, and deceptive business practices.
✅ Breach of Warranty – The equipment provided is not fit for its intended purpose.
✅ Unconscionable Cancellation Fees – ADT’s unreasonable and excessive charges to cancel a service that was never properly delivered in the first place.
Worst of all, ADT does not even own their installer network, meaning they take zero responsibility when their subcontractors mess up your installation. Their call centers exist only to transfer you endlessly until you give up.
I strongly urge everyone to RUN from ADT and choose literally any other security company. They are running a bait-and-switch operation, and the difficulty in canceling and retrieving funds is completely intentional. Save yourself the time, money, and stress—ADT is not worth it.
I will be pursuing legal action and filing complaints with consumer protection agencies. ADT needs to be held accountable.

I have been an ADT customer for over 20 years, but my experience over the past year has been nothing short of frustrating. After spending thousands of dollars to upgrade my alarm system, it has never worked properly. The system is completely nonfunctional, frequently triggers false alarms for no reason, and fails to provide the security I was promised. Despite multiple technician visits, no one has been able to fix the problem.
To make matters worse, ADT’s customer support is unresponsive and ineffective. Scheduling a technician is an ordeal, and when one does arrive, they fail to resolve the issue. The service supervisor ignores phone calls and does not respond to emails, making it nearly impossible to get any meaningful assistance. In an effort to escalate my concerns, I have even emailed senior management directly—only to receive no response. Instead of solutions, I am repeatedly given the runaround by customer service representatives who seem more focused on deflecting responsibility than addressing the problem.
All this time, ADT has continued to bill me in full every month for a system that does not work at all. Despite their knowledge of the ongoing issues, they have made no effort to adjust my billing or offer compensation for their failure to provide the service I am paying for. Instead, they have continued to collect payments while failing to deliver a functional system.
For a company that claims to specialize in security and reliability, my experience has been the exact opposite. My alarm system is unreliable, customer support is nonexistent, and I am left with an expensive, completely dysfunctional service. ADT’s refusal to take accountability, combined with their unjustified billing, demonstrates unethical business practices. I would strongly caution anyone considering ADT—this company fails to stand behind its products and services while continuing to charge customers for a service they do not provide.

We had a billing issue with them and the guy that we spoke to (Jason) was dismissive. We were not given warning that our account would be charged and when we asked to be refunded they said they cannot do that. Of course they can do that, but the would choose not to. I am not a fan of that kind of service.
My wife and I had an ADT home security…
My wife and I had an ADT home security system installed. We have experienced only problems since the installation. We pay a monthly fee for their services. When we requested a service appointment once they came out we were told that a $60 fee is required to have our issue “resolved “. ADT is a service that we chose similar to our internet and TV service. When we require a service call from our internet or TV company…there is no service charge in addition to the regularly monthly fee that we pay. Our customer satisfaction is extremely low with ADT and would NOT recommend.
I'm blown away by the incompetency
I'm blown away by the incompetency of this company. Initially they placed my camera's incorrectly so I had this huge blind spot in my driveway. Then after I got hit by Hurricane Helene and my building was in renovation and I didn't need to have the service I called to suspend my account. Turns out they only gave me a credit and then started billing me again before I was ready for service. Then when I called I got someone in India with no ability to really help me. THEN when I had just gotten so frustrated I wanted to cancel my account he could not, so he had to transfer me to a different department. I waited over 20 minutes on hold and when that department finally picked up turns out that was not the correct department so I had to be transferred again with another 20+ minute wait. I had to spend over an hour or my day just trying to cancel the service!! Wow ADT. do better! A once decent company flushed down the toilet in the name of profit. I can't wait for the day we can send a bill for our time to these POS companies!!
I needed a home security system
I needed a home security system. I ordered it from ADT. I signed the contract didn’t realize it was gonna cost so much then after they come and put the set in My Home the person taught me to get the whole set ended up being over $3500 and I can’t get anybody to come and put the rest of it up on the outside of my home and that was the main reason I ordered the ADT system because his pitch black dog at my home and I needed a Camera to be able to see to get to my car and what around my area, but I can’t get anybody to come and put the solar light and cameras up on the outside. It’s been and I’m calling over and over and over and can’t get solved with ADT system. They can’t get anyone electrician to come and put it up and I’ve been complaining and they want me to pay for something sitting in my bedroom .

If I could give them 0 or negative stars I would. I’m a military wife and my husband is moved all over the United States to different duty stations every 2-3 years. We were moving and needed to cancel our ADT and legally had the right to cancel our membership because we had written orders to a new location and they charged us the cancellation fee because my name was on the account and I wasn’t active duty military. My husband is active duty military.
I’m home alone and getting ADT to protect my family, while my husband was deployed serving our country and they do this to us because we got new orders and HAD to move.
ADT I have told so many military wives this story and to stay far away from your service. I also work in the legal field and what they were doing was illegal. Had I gone through and fought it we would have won. ADT does not care about Military wives, as this treatment showed their true colors.
Don’t waste your time with ADT. Ring is far better and it actually works .
Is ADT still a trustworthy company????
We have been a customer of ADT since 1998. We had a couple of bumps along the way, but they ALWAYS fixed the problem very professionally. Their service has always been supportive of our security needs. I don't know what happened! But this is not the case today. They are getting a 2 star because of charges that we paid since 2022, for a product and service that we never received. I discovered this upon trying to get additional equipment for our home. After several calls and two case numbers, I spoke with a representative named Katoya, who offered to lower our bill without affecting the ongoing case, by adding us to a 3-year contract. We didn't mind because the new equipment that we were to order, would put us under a new contract anyway. HOWEVER Katoya, cancelled our ongoing case without telling us and made a false note in our file, that we agreed to what she was doing. While on the phone she guaranteed me that she would not touch the case and what she was doing would not have any effect on it. NOW ADT is refusing to acknowledge that we paid over $300.00 for video services that we never had. This is not the ADT that we have dealt with for over 27 years!!! We've also been told several times that we would get a call from their Back Office, which we have not receive. Even after us making 3 attempts to get this resolved, I feel that others should know.
ADT is just not the company that we thought they were. We don't see how we can trust a security company that supports their representative's deceitful practices! However, we are hopeful that ADT can show us that they are the company that we always thought they were. Stay tuned...

Well I'm a disabled veteran and this company is for fools and is a waste of time. First off in August I put in a system and well every one lied. It was sold by AT&T but no one said anything about simply safe. And ADT never ever fix what was installed. So this simply safe company shows up and two weeks later it stopped working..
Like my camera was a on and off thing, And thr screen and poor alarm, stop working altogether.. But AT&T said they don't fix it because it's not there's. So I Called ADT and they said sorry it's not ours either And So I called simply say after two months they finally set an appointment but 5 minutes after they was supposed to be hear I called the tec at 12:05 and she made the appointment and she said she be hear at 3 pm the same day but at 2pm she calls I can't drop my call with one of my bankers. And when I was done I waited and after 430 the home office said sorry our tec was there. BS or at the wrong time. So I didn't get the system fixed until Saturday in February over 5 months I lost one vehicle because my camera didn't work and somebody drained my oil I pulled the fuse and so I blew the motor no conversation from a security company not on the bill or the damn it then someone comes in my yeard used a flashlight to try to blind my camera and this so called security. Company can't assist you in calling the please or give you back up don't put each better up to go get your own security system.
