Late payment with auto- pay?
I received a $1.80 discount monthly in October. I had no idea the auto pay would be canceled. I received a
late pmt notice in January. After an easy 2 hours with customer service, I still had to pay two months of service and my guess, it was reported to the credit bureau. I MAINTAIN a credit score of 800. BEWARE!!
EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION WITH THEIR BILLING DEPARTMENT. WHO OWNS THIS OUTFIT???
Lots of apologies, but I still took the HIT for their colossal screw up.
Double Billing-bad customer service
I signed up with them in September 2024, they offered me 2 month free but they have been double billing me for 3 months. I have on the phone with them for ours but none for the rep were able to tell me where the extra chances were coming from. They have terrible customer service and billing system. I don't recommend anyone signing ups with, they will rob you.
ADT hides behind the statute of limitations
My father in law has been a customer of ADT for over 25 years. Something happened 10 years ago and a separate account was open at his address without his knowledge. On 01-07-2025 I talked to ADT about his account and found about this double billing. The first two customer service people were very helpful in resolving the problem and get him a refund for the 10 years of over payments. The problem comes with ADT corporate policy and hiding behind the statute of limitations. They will only refund for 4 of the 10 years of over payments. When I called the corporate customer relations they told me my only recourse is to sue. I've started that process, but that seems to be the worse way to run a business. It's stealing from an 88 year old man. Evil is opening running this business.
The response from ADT was that they have a legal right not to refund the over payment because of the statue of limitations. Stealing $6500 from a 88 year old man is just wrong. Hiding behind some law is worse. He's been a customer for over 25 years and this is how you treat him.
I would leave a zero if I could
I would leave a zero if I could. On October 14, 2024, I called ADT because my carbon dioxide alarm was not communicating with their center and constant beeping. They told me at that time that it was expired and that I would need to upgrade it for some ridiculous fee I told them that I did not want to do this. After much hard selling and constant refusals, we FINALLY ended the call. I had to disconnect the detector to get it to stop beeping. On December 15th I called them because I was getting an error message on my alarm system and was told that this problem had to do with my phone line. In the meantime, I decided to remove my home phone line since I never use it. I called them back on December 19th to let them know that I no longer had a home phone and was told that it would be hundreds of dollars to upgrade or replace my system I kept telling them that I wasn't going to do this and to please cancel my service. I was called back after that call, and they kept me on the phone for one hour and 9 mins to tell me that they were going to upgrade my service for free and that someone would come out on January 8th to do the job. I told them at the time repeatedly that I did not want any contracts and was assured I would not have. In addition, for me being a customer for 5 years they were going to reduce my fee from $43 to $38. I told them that if there was any contract involved I did not want to do this. They say that the calls are recorded, so you will be able to verify everything that I am saying. On January 8th their representative came out and I stopped him at the door and let him know that the reason I had on a mask was to protect him because I was just getting over Covid. He did not come in but told me that he could not complete what he had on his ticket anyway because they no longer supported the system. He told me that he would have to put in a new system and that would cost thousands. I told him no and immediately called them back and asked them to cancel again. Another 41 mins of them not listening and telling me that they are giving me all kinds of discounts. Finally, because I told her I just want to cancel I was informed by Zamirah who refused her last name that I would have to pay for a contract until the end of the year because of the $38 fee, when I asked to be credited for the last month that was charged that I did not receive any services. I asked for what and was told that once the rep. entered my house even though he did nothing I was responsible. I informed her that he did not enter my house. She told me that they were not responsible for not knowing that they did not have compatible equipment but I however had three days from the last phone call. I asked her what I would be paying for since they would not be monitoring anything and was told that they have already offered me a huge discount for a new system. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she refused saying that she was the final word. At this point I would like to be credited for the time that I asked to cancel since the only thing that they did was to try to push me back. I am attaching copies of phone call lengths and emails from them. I also feel as thought they are trying to prey on Senior Citizens trying to double and triple talk them.
Hello my name is Roy I worked for the…
Hello my name is Roy I worked for the Bulldog company in the Dallas location and the owner of the location never paid me for my work. The ADT guy came out to set up the cameras and never plugged them in he said it was a problem with the WiFi and he would come back to do it. By the end of the day I had received a notification that 76 dollars was taken from my account. I call everyday to get the job completed but the boss of the Bulldog company left me a a very disrespectful message and never picked up again I have been waiting 2 weeks for a payment from the company
The worst customer service imaginable...
The worst customer service I have ever experienced in the USA or the UK and I am an ADT customer in both countries for my businesses. You would think they would value my business after a decade.
It's shocking how poorly they operate, and they should be ashamed of how badly this company is managed.
Employees even complain about the company because the good ones are tired of the mess and the stress. My regional manager left his position - when visiting my business would be extremely embarrassed and apologetic about the incompetent telephone customer service when we would have to call them together.
The technology itself is really good in the USA, and I enjoyed the Control system, but the customer service line is a real joke. My personal record is being passed to 8 different customer service agents on the same 45 minute call, often without warning, and having to explain my issue every single time. To be honest, I shouldn't be surprised.... they even put a typo in my company name when signing me up and could not work out how to rectify it... so for years I have been called MARTY instead of Mary.
They must have so many people on payroll who have zero competence or training, who spend their whole day passing you onto a different "department". There is no synergy, communication or training across this company.
ADT have questionable business practices designed to bleed money from the customer regardless of customer history, customer service practice or the customer experience. It is to the detriment of the ADT brand.
For example: ADT refuse to let you reinstall your existing equipment when you move in order to charge you again for brand new equipment at your new property (my existing equipment is less than 2 years old and cost over $2000 upfront), stating, "we do not install pre-owned equipment" even if it's their own equipment? This is extremely bad for both the customers pocket, and very wasteful for the environment. They do this so that any new tenant/owner will become an ADT customer as there is a system installed, and they can start billing them. Meanwhile, the poor, loyal customer must pay thousands for a full new equipment installation at their next property.
However, if your new property has an existing ADT system they will allow you to use it... So there you have it.
Also, beware of 3-year monitoring contracts they do not inform you about the length of upon signing up. I received a cancellation fee of over $1000, which they did not tell me about over the phone when cancelling my account. So I am being charged to leave a company which I did not want to leave, but have been forced to do as they are unable to assist me in moving my services to a new commercial unit.
My advice is to find another alarm company; the pros of technology do not outweigh the cons of dealing with one of the most poorly managed businesses I have worked with in decades of running my own businesses.
It was the worst customer service I…
It was the worst customer service I have ever seen. They will keep you on the phone for over an hour trying to cancel your policy, which will still not be completed. Transfer you from one department to another, playing games and asking the same questions repeatedly.
Great experience, highly recommended.
Horrible! The motion sensors never did work, to service agents came out with a new sensor and placed it in the same spot. When that one didn't work either, I asked if it could be where they placed it and was told no. After that third call I gave up on that feature because basically was told there was nothing they could do about it and the reason was because I was wrong LOL. The two different service agents didn't say I was wrong they found it didn't work either. I was called by a salesperson and solicited to extend my contract for another 2 years when my 2-year contract was up which I declined as I didn't need adt's alarm system anymore and they canceled my system and charged me an early cancellation fee LOL. What in the world? Now I've got these stupid sensors that beep every time I particular door opens and my entire family has to listen to this beat all throughout the house. Why in the heck is everything still working? They say I canceled early, I've been charged in early cancellation fee, the motion sensor never did work, and there was no supervisor on duty to speak with me about any of this so the representative has just left me hanging and I don't know if I'm going to continue to be billed. This is a review after my second phone call to customer service trying to get someone who knew the answer to that question and a serviceman to come shut off this beeping sound and a contract cancellation confirmation so I don't continue to be billed but nope! And my stuck here forever in and an ADT nightmare?
I referred my daughter to your company…
I referred my daughter to your company in December for a security system installation in her new home. The customer service agent assured my daughter that I would receive a $200 referral fee for the referral. My daughter received her new system on December 2nd, and I submitted the referral on December 4th with assistance from a representative. However, my referral was declined on December 5th.
On December 30th, I spoke with two representatives: Mauro and Terrance. Both confirmed that they would submit the referral for the $200 fee, and I was told I would receive it within a week. Since then, I have not received any update or payment from ADT.
On Saturday, January 4th, I contacted ADT and spoke with Enrique, who advised me to call back on Monday. I called again on Monday, January 6th, and spoke with Jamie, who informed me that I would not be receiving the $200 referral fee. Jamie then transferred me to his supervisor, also named Jamie, who reiterated the same response.
I feel misled because when my daughter initially called to set up the system and mentioned I referred her, she was told that I could submit the referral at any time. Due to system issues, I wasn't able to submit it until December 4th, but I was assured that I would receive the $200 fee. Furthermore, when speaking with the supervisor, I felt that his attitude was unprofessional, and I suspect my race and age may have influenced his response. I am a 65-year-old woman who was misled, and I believe I am entitled to the $200 referral fee.
Additionally, my husband and I have been loyal customers since 1998, with no payment issues. Given our long-standing relationship with ADT, I request that the $200 referral fee be honored as promised.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response and resolution.
ADT fraudulent installers
ADT Has installers in the field who are committing fraud! A man came to my home to install my system. After he put the wall panel up he told me that I could not get cameras because I had Verizon internet. Shouldn’t he have asked that question before he even came out? Or before he put up the wall panel? I told him that it would be pointless then. Why would I need ADT without any cameras? He continued trying to upsell me, even after knowing that the system would not work with Verizon. He stated that all he needed was a part and to do some research and he’d be back the following week. He never came back. I called him and he kept reiterating that there was no part and that we can’t get cameras because we have Verizon. He threw this panel on our wall along with a few chimes on our door and left. He knew that system would not work! He simply just wanted to get paid off of the install. ADT has been trying to charge us since the day after he left. He also told us that our previous systems company was being sued. Welp! Come get the bs out of my home and cancel this contract or ADT will be joining them sir!
As of today not one person has returned our calls! But we are receiving bills. The equipment that wasn’t put up including a simple ring camera is still in the pile of mess that he left it.
Do not use this company for your own…
Do not use this company for your own good. The technician that came in to install my things told me that I could cancel anytime and the contract that I was signing was giving them permission to install things in my home. This turned out not to be true. Due to having a newborn and going down to a single income I called to negotiate a cancelation. They wanted to charge me over $1,000. I asked to escalate to a supervisor because I was calling because we cannot afford the $75 payment. They refused, and they told me I would go to collection. This is a horrible scamming company that takes advantage of people by lying and misleading them. When I went to the better business bureau you can see the many reviews of scenarios almost identical to mine. They do this a lot.
ADT TERRIBLE SERVICE NEVER USE
I am writing to you pleading to take into deep consideration all that I am about to be transparent about. I do not feel this is how the situation, be handled, as it is a delicate personal matter, however, ADT is not meeting its expectations as a business, nor is it the stellar performing security system I agreed to.
I lost my son in 2020 to a drug overdose. I, as his mother, alone had to perform
CPR on him over 3 times to save his life. He had been sexually assaulted as a child. I had just got approved for a home loan. I have never been able to purchase my own home. At the time, my 19 year old daughter was pregant, with a new baby on the way. I had to buy a home to accommodate their needs, to make them feel safe. So, I did not have a lot of time to research the neighborhood.
I bought a beautiful home, equipped with all new appliances, furnace, etc. I needed us all to feel secure. I purchased the ADT security system in May 2023 in anticipation of having a sense of relief and security. When it was installed, it was not long after I had to call the same man that installed it to completely replace the equipment as a lightning storm had completely destroyed it. This was from a dealer. He told me with storms it can be taken out. That was my first red flag. Then not long after, maybe a few months , it happened yet again. This was past the initial warranty, but ADT offered to cover the cost of the maintenance visit. So again, someone came out and replaced the entire unit. It lasted merely a month or so. The batteries were replaced, a new unit. I NEED to feel safe in my home with a daughter and granddaughter. There was a shooting on the corner of my road. I had a neighbor murdered and shot. I have reported my neighbors repeatedly as suspicious drug dealers.
I have already lost a child. I cannot lose my daughter and my granddaughter. I paid over $2,000 for a security system that did not live up to their name. That did not provide the sense of security that I needed. I have found a system that is installable. The equipment is only $109 and subscription lasts 1 year. The battery stays charged for 2 years. The picture is in color and is as clear as the TV i watch.
Why would no one tell me that the contract was for 3 years? Why would I pay for a breach of contract when it was never legitimate. I never had a sense of security. I never felt safe in my own home. Sleepless nights, worrying whether we would be safe. I am not paying for the breach of contract. In fact I should be refunded for all those months ADT did not fullfill their obligation to protect me and my little family. I will do whatever is necessary to protect my family and my credit. I will put out reviews daily if necessary until this is resolved to my satisfaction. Shame on you, shame on you ADT for not providing its customers the security we need and to gouge people that serve you and your needs. Every person I have interacted with tells me to stay away from ADT, now I will be that voice. And I will review and resend this until I am relieved of this burden.
Sincerely,
Erika J. Baum ACCT.#320564682
Terrible Business
Terrible Business. Homeowners beware. Nothing but a scam.
1-Star Review here for ADT’s 4373 1-Star average
#4373 1-Star Review here !!
40+ days for service and three broken tech appts.
ADT CLAIMS “#1 Alarm & CCTV Service provider in the US” and these near 4,500 reviews that average 1-Star should be added to their point of purchase materials.
A reputation Company back I. The day that certainly has fallen from grace BIG TIME !!!
*I paid 5K for 15HD Cameras, a new DVR w/a TB of memory and I can’t get the DBR to playback nor can I scroll camera to camera “easily on the 40” screen in my office (of my 10M Roofing Co. in Los Angeles).
I really hate adt and there aggravation
I really hate adt and there outrageous price to have someone install a battery and hate there assumeing that everyone is a technology or technician person so they can get away with ripping people off......then your forced to constantly hear sorry sorry sorry and they thro religion in at the end of the call.....lucky if you can get a person as well that you can understand with there heavy accent...........lord I hate aggravation
Inferior, Junk equipment…
Installed ADT in home as I am away in the winter. Within 3 weeks the sensor for our front door malfunctioned. One week later the battery to a room motion sensor died. This is a brand-new system! Called "customer service" and was told that there was nothing they could do about it because I'm not there, and if I were, I'd have to pay for it, even though its brand-new.
I'll throw this system out when I return in the spring. Meanwhile, I'm out of luck.
Huge problem trying to cancel the service
Don't try to cancel it, your experience is the worst possible, lot of time spend and they make everything to make impossible for you to cancel their service.
ADT perpetuates intentional fraudulent billing
Called ADT November 26th to disconnect service. Informed have to pay for extra 30 day “notice period” even though it will not be valid as we sold house November 25th.
Get bill from ADT end of December for service period 12/24/24 -01/23/25?!? Call them, Yes their records indicate I called to cancel 11/26, but they must have an error in their systems . I have to call them again on Monday as the account management team only works M - F, not Saturday. The. whole billing process when leaving them is a fraud.
There is so much to say that has gone…
There is so much to say that has gone wrong in the past 30 days...to make a long story short - ADT could not verify/confirm the technicians who have been sent to my home are in fact their employees. I've been told they could have been 3rd party vendors, subcontractors, employees who failed to document what they resolved or unable to resolve. Nonetheless, I asked what the notes read about my service call and was advised to subpoena them. My new service is not satisfactory. Been with ADT for 20+ years, just want to switch equipment - told I couldn't because I didn't request a cancelation within 72 hours. I DON'T WANT TO CANCEL. JUST WANT THE BENEFIT AND FEATURES I HAVE BEEN ACCUSTOMED TO THAT ARE NO LONGER AVAILABLE AFTER THEY INSTALLED MY NEW EQUIPMENT. I'VE BEEN HUNG UP ON, TOLD TO FIND A NEW VENDOR AND TO BE PREPARED TO PAY FOR A PRODUCT THAT I MERELY WANT TO SWAP OUT IN LESS THAN 30 DAYS...ACTUALLY WITHIN 5 DAYS OF RECEIPT. TOLD TO FILE A COMPLAINT THRU SNAIL MAIL AS THEY REQUIRE THIS BOOMER TO BE TECH SAVVY. HELP!!!
FRAUD! FORGED SIGNATURE $2500 CONTRACT FEE
DO NOT USE ADT! They are crooked and complete scammers. Their technician FRAUDULENTLY signed my name to their ridiculous contract that supposedly states they can charge $2,500 for a cancellation fee. I signed no such contract, and when I looked at this alleged contract, I saw that it was not my signature. It's not even my name - let alone my signature (I've attached a screenshot for your reference).
I haven't even had their service for a month yet, and the entire time, I have not had a working doorbell. They have given me a complete runaround from the very beginning - trying to state that I have to change my internet provider for their cameras to work properly. I then tried to cancel the initial install at that moment before any service even started; instead, the sales lady told me that my internet might work and insisted on sending out the tech anyway so that they could make that determination.
That initial tech came out and said that he could use a different set of cameras that would work with my internet provider, but he said he didn't have them on his truck. He agreed to come out on Saturday to do the install.
When he arrived, he couldn't finish the install and left me with no working cameras and no doorbell. He said he would be back on Monday to finish the job. He never came. It was about a week later that I called to inquire about the remaining installation service. They then sent a different tech out to my house to finish the install.
The doorbell stopped working THAT day. I called back, and they kept giving me 5 hour blocks to be available for another tech to come out. I explained that I can't keep taking time off work to wait around for them.
They finally agreed to give me a 1 hour time block on the 24th; however no one showed up. When I called them, they said the appointment was cancelled; however, I never cancelled the appointment. They also never told me it was cancelled. After yet another 20 minute runaround, I managed to get another appointment set up.
When that technician arrived, he argued with me about how their system is the best and the power at my house is not strong enough to support it. He also informed me I would be charged $59 per visit each time I request a technician - even though it isn't anything that I did to warrant the need for a technician. At that point I had had enough, and I decided to cancel all together. No company is worth this headache.
Attempting to cancel service is where the real fun began. That is when I was informed that I'm locked into some contract, and they would charge me $2500 for cancelling. I looked up that "Contract," and I saw that it is not even my signature. I never signed anything, and their technician clearly did.
I explained that to the sales rep, and he said it didn't matter. I asked about their 6-month money back guarantee, and he said I didn't qualify due to my low power supply.
This is the worst company to do business with, and I wouldn't recommend them to my enemy. I informed them I would contact Gephardt (which I have), and they stuck to their guns saying their fees are valid. That may or may not be true, but a fraudulent signature shouldn't be. If you are considering them, my advice would be to make sure you secure a lawyer on retainer first. Good luck!
SCAM!
It is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to cancel your account with ADT. I sold my house and tried to cancel the account. It took multiple attempts. They put on hold forever and transfer you multiple times.
Avoid ADT at All Costs - Horrible Customer Service and Inefficient Processes
I’ve been an ADT customer since March 2021, and my recent experience trying to cancel my service has solidified my decision to never deal with them again. After calling to cancel my service on a property that will close escrow on December 27, it took a staggering 46 minutes and being transferred 4 times to different representatives.
I had to authenticate myself multiple times with verbal passwords and account information, only to be passed around from account management to billing, then to a relocation specialist (which I didn’t even need, as I clearly explained that the property was being sold). The entire process felt like no one listened to my request, and it’s nearly impossible to handle this kind of simple task without endless delays and frustration.
To make matters worse, you can't cancel online, so you're forced into this frustrating, time-wasting cycle. If there were zero stars, I would give it to this poorly run company.
Save yourself the headache and avoid ADT at all costs.
If you don't already have ADT
If you don't already have ADT , avoid them. They are the biggest liars and how can you feel secure with liars monitoring your house???? I signed up they told me installation was free but that same day my credit card was charged, every month after that my monthly fee was more than my contract states. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH AFT LITERALLY ANY COMPANY WOULD BE A STEP UP
WOULD RATE ZERO IF I COULD
WOULD RATE ZERO IF I COULD. For more than a year, my ADT cameras did not work. Every time a technician came to my house, they said cameras were fine but I need to upgrade. I finally tried to cancel the service in October 2024. After no less than six calls to ADT in October, November, and December, I was finally able to cancel after almost 12 weeks of trying. My account was never closed as requested in November. When I tried to get a refund for October, November, and December, I was told my request was denied for Oct. and Nov., but they would credit me a whopping $26 for December.
I had ADT for close to nine years, but have switched companies and will never deal with ADT in my life. Horrible customer service, horrible video cameras / image quality, and just an awful experience all around. Go with Ring, SimpliSafe, blink, or any other provider out there... anyone but ADT!
They sell Snake oil!
They sell Snake oil. Had them for 20 years, spent over $8000 in monitoring, etc. just had a burglary and they blew it. Monitoring didn’t respond. No police. No call. Read your contract…no obligation to perform…”liability limitations are $500”. Disgusting. Just buy a sign.
Update: 12/21/24- ADT’s “social media” person responded with faux concern. Basically reinforcing the unsatisfactory and insulting offer that I had already received. Completely tone deaf…
Just know that ADTs agreement with you is filled with apparent caveats that is designed to relieve them from any responsibility for doing what customers expect from them.
