Vastly overpriced with horrible customer support.
I have had an ADT security system for 15 years.
Reviewing my bills, i see that the quarterly cost jumped from $125.99 to $249.99. No phone call or email or letter to advise me of this huge jump. I called ADT and spoke to customer service and supervisors etc, but no one could offer a reasonable explanation and no one could credit me for the jump in price. So, they lost a 15 year loyal customer and I will go find a new system.
Btw—ADT immediately responded to my review as you can see below. It’s an automated response. I emailed them as they requested and they did not respond to the email, nor did they call me.
Don’t be fooled by their automated response—it’s jut more BS from them.
Get ring
They provide you with a service at a high cost, you expect them to do what right when you call customer service but they don’t. I installed 20 window sensor they wanted to send a tech out cause they charge you can do most yourself. If you want to rename that specific sensor they refuse to do it. Meanwhile they love those 54.00 a month. This is to the reply I received, you don’t need a tech to come out that optional. But the bs about pride you guys have zero pride tech are trash they barely do the job right that why I decided to do the work myself the right way.

We purchased a new home which had a previous ADT security system. Our new home security experience has been horrid. We spent a good amount on the phone with the representative that reached out to put together the package that was suitable for our family and in our price range which was pleasant- $64.99: 3 access, interior motion sensor, touch keypad, backup battery for power outage security, outdoor camera, phone app up to 6 devices, 6000 video clip storage, anything opening or closing, etc.
After all was said and done, it took multiple calls back to the office due to an issue with the sensors on the back door stating that it was opened the night he left. Also, us noticing later that our outdoor camera was not installed. We called the office multiple times and finally was able to get an appointment for the technician to return to fix the issues. We finally scheduled a day to have the technician come out for the 8A- 11A time slot. I waited from 8A- 1:20P until I called the office asking where the technician was because I spent my entire morning waiting and still have many errands I had to complete. The gentlemen I spoke to said he was not sure what was going on, but he would get a hold of someone and have them return my call within an hour. He stated that they were in the mist of dealing with COVID-19 and maybe that has something to do with it. To be honest, we all were and are dealing with this unfortunate circumstance, so we understand how stressful things can be. However, that cannot justify why the technician did not show up to a schedule appointment, and we did not get a courtesy phone call letting me know. Our lives are very busy with everything going on, and time is money. We never received a call back. I called back again the following day and did not get a response from anyone. To add, due to the back door being alerted that it was open since the night of installment, we did not want to arm the system in case it set off the security system. A few days later, I finally hear from a Jim. Aside from his explanation, ADT again stated that due to the COVID19, operations have been challenged and such. This is not an excuse for poor communication or guest service. I need to work with a company that has accountability and a quick solution to fix any concerns I may have due to your service or product. Jim reassured me that things will be smooth sailing moving forward, and he will be my direct contact to ensure that. Jim offered to reimburse our card for the $99 installation fee for the inconvenience ADT has caused. Also, we had to change my contact to the main number because for some reason they did not have it on there. He stated he will make it right and all the corrections needed.
With all the time that I have invested now writing this review a month later, I still have not gotten satisfactory answers. I contacted Jim from LVD Concepts INC on Friday, April 3rd, 2020 which was over a week of him offering to refund the $99 activation fee back to my card due. In addition, I wanted to cancel service with ADT because this whole experience was horrid as I stated and unnecessary. The woman I spoke to said she was not authorized to perform the refund nor cancel my account without penalty and suggested that I spoke with Jim. She stated that she will pass along my concerns, and he would either contact me back. It is now Thursday, April 9th, 2020, and I have still not heard back from him. I again contacted LVD Conceptions INC at 9:42A PST and spoke to Tyrone. He stated that Jim has just stepped out to lunch and will be be back in half an hour.
When a consumer purchases goods and services and should not be this complicated. My experience with ADT as a whole due to the company that represents it is beyond unacceptable. I will never use ADT service again.
A despicable policy
I recently changed to another monitoring company because it allowed someone else to cover the cost. Since I was out of contract I assumed I was month to month and when the monitoring switched over that was it. I got a bill for two months service. I called to cancel and asked for consideration on the amount. Granted, per the contract I made the mistake. What really set me off is the fact they are charging me a month WE HAVEN'T STARTED YET! When I asked they said that there is a 30 day cancelation so they can charge me for the next month! I'm sorry but that is dispicable! That's 2 months of charges for no service.
Beware of this company and the fine…
Beware of this company and the fine print. I had them for 15 years and when I moved back into my home they extended my contract for another 3 years.I sold the home after 18 months and they demanded I continue to pay another 18 months. The contract is non transferable and goes up every year.To put it my new home I have to have a new contract for another 3 years. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THEM!!!!
Alarm goes off they don’t even answer phone!!!
We are customers, ADT purchased protection one, and just a few minutes ago the wind must have blown our door open tripping the alarm, a call was made to our cell phone, no message was left by ADT, we called, and were placed on hold for a few minutes, we hung up, then called back, and within 45 seconds or so someone answered the phone and I tried to speak to them to make sure they didn’t send the police and as soon as Ibsaid hello, my name is, they hung up! Unbelievable!!!
The alarm goes off, they call but leave no message then when I call to tell them not to send the police I get put on hold for several minutes, I call back, then I get hung up on!
Incredible, as soon as people can venture out we are canceling our service with ADT!
Worst customer service
Worst customer service don’t get this system, when it comes down to issues they will not fix your issues, and they will charge you for a technician to come out and fix your issue, on top of your monthly dues. DO NOT GET THIS! there is other security systems better!
Find another home security service
Find another home security service. They cost more that others. The installation technician installed one door sensor wrong and it falls off when ever I open the door. Went on a vacation and turned on the alarm. When we returned home we opened the app to turn off our alarm to find out the alarm was already turned off. When I called they couldn’t tell me why it was turned off. Everyone time you move they make you lock in a new three year contract so you can get out of the other one. So if you move and don’t want to use them you have to pay for the whole three year contract to get out of it. Called to cancel and got transferred three times before I got the info I needed. Save yourself money and the frustration and go with someone else for your home security needs.
Misleading Cancellation Policy
I switched providers after learning of a good promotion to upgrade with minimal cost. Needless to say, on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, my tech came out, (who was very professional and great) to install the equipment and provided a tutuorial for my family. The issue I have is, my tech informed me along with the person they call for quality assurance that I had three business day to cancel if I decide to keep my current provider or just simply want to cancel. Well on Monday, March 30, 2020, I called ADT to cancel as remain with my current alarm company. I was told that I had three business days to cancel and that was Saturday, March 28, 2020 by midnight. I said ma'am with all due respect, weekends are not considered business days and she replied well it is for us, "any day that that post office is open, we are open so its a business day for us." I stated again, ma'am weekends are not business days and she became iritated with me and her tone changed. I also asked for a copy of my contract because on the initial day, I was able to open it but every since last Wednesday, I can't open it. They keep saying, they will email it to me and today is another Wednesday and still no contract. I will be reaching out to the Better Business Bureau and the Louisiana Public Service Commission to help me. I called within three business days as told to me by both parties and now I can't cancel unless I pay them 75% of the three year contract. This is not good business practices, this was very misleading and I intend to rebutle this.
If I could give zero stars I would
If I could give zero stars I would.
1. Predatory contracting processes - they put you into a contract and then when you try to move to a new address they require you to sign a new contract for the same length of time. In theory, if you never reach full term at a property, you have to keep renewing (and paying them more and more money).
2. 6-month money-back guarantee isn't real. I tried to execute this after four months of service and they would not honor it. They stated this was a policy and not a contractual guarantee.
Avoid this company!!!
Update - After posting this review, a member of their team reached out to me to offer help (see the response on the review) which was nice. After sending over the information requested via email related to this they responded that they would not be honoring the 6month money-back guarantee. Not helpful.
The worse customer services experience
The worse customer services experience, I have a problem wit ADT for over than 4 months, I have been calling to fix this problem with m bill and nobody helped me, I want to cancel my account and now they said that I have t pay over than 1,000 dollars, I so regret to select ADT ad my security services provider.
DO NOT USE ADT; IT’S A NIGHTMARE TO CANCEL
DO NOT USE ADT if you even think you might cancel the service. If I could no stars, I would. During the many years our former home in Connecticut was connected to ADT, I have no idea if its service was good or bad; fortunately, we never needed it.
However, after moving from CT to South Carolina in November 2019 and canceling our ADT service at that time by phone, we have continued to receive paper and email billings for the final quarter. Oh, in the past several months I have called ADT each time we receive a “dunning” notice, and during everyone of those three further calls, I had to speak to at least 3 different ADT representatives, with the last person on each call confirming that our account had been terminated effective the end of November 2019 and that we would receive no further dunning letters or emails. Hah! Since the most “cancellation confirmation” several or so weeks ago, I have received 2 more emails. I am loathed to make another call. We now use a local Carolina security company. THERE MUST SIMILAR LOCAL COMPANIES THAT PROVIDE AT LEAST EQUAL SECURITY AS ADT WITHOUT THE ADMINISTRATIVE HEADACHES.
TERRIBLE COMPANY!!!
If you want surprise Billings and a dishonest company get ADT. I will never do business again with this company!!!! NEVER
i have been an ADT customer for over 20…
a sincere reply to the review below and follow up with same old response sorry your system wont work but you will have to sign a three year contract to fix your system...and ive been with adt for 20 years. unbelievable. ADT presidential executive response specialist...
i have been an ADT customer for over 20 years. never had a problem except batteries. starting in January 2020 my 10yr old system started acting up. i had 4 techs come out on 4 different occasions and replace parts and still not working. i asked to replace the entire system with newest up todate equipment. First they wanted to charge me $700 then they wanted to install another patch device that might work. the customer loyalty manager was rude and talked over me not listening to my problem. said ADT is in business to make money. After much back and forth she finally to replace the system. reschedules tech 2 weeks out. still not operating system. the tech showed up yesterday and first thing said i was required to sign a new 3 year contract. this was never mentioned by the loyalty manager and i refused. the tech turned off the system and said he couldnt install new equipment. i called this morning and cancelled my service. talked to another rude loyalty manager named Whitley who made excuses and talked over me at every turn. What a reward for being a 20 customer that has never asked for anything. i asked for a refund of the last three months since i have been with out service she said she could give me two months credit and they will take out this month charge from the credit so i will get only one month credit. So disappointed...terrible customer service for my one and only time to need help.
Canceled in January mid month
Canceled in January mid month. Had a credit coming and they keep sending us bills and then sent Us to collection. We have never received our check for the money we had coming back.
My wife called today to complain the man that helped her said can we call it even.
I would allow some to break into my house before I would ever use this cheating company.
We bought the Ring alarm. $10 a month and the customer service really appreciates your business.
Horrible customer service
I am having to move my business out of my current location due to the virus. I do not have a new location for this business, so it will most likely permanently close. They are saying I have to pay $1914 to finish out my contract. I do not have that to pay from a permanently closed business. They said I could relocate to a new place to avoid that fee. I said I might find a new temporary place for the business where I could relocate it eventually, but I have no idea where or when. They said to relocate to that new temporary place, I have to sign a NEW three year contract. It won't even be a three year lease, which means I'll have to pay another $2k once I move out of that place or sign another 3 year contract. So this sounds like blackmail at this point. Sign a 3 year contract with us or pay $2k because I am unable to continue business in my current location. No one has been able to help me. 5 times I have been disconnected for no reason after being passed around from department to department. During this global pandemic, this is some real terrible customer service.
I originally had ADT installed at my…
I originally had ADT installed at my home in Jacksonville Fl in January of 2019. I set up everything through ADT and that is the company I thought I was dealing with. In August of 2019, my wife and I decided to move to our beach house in Panama City Beach Florida. Again, I called ADT to schedule the relocation and a technician came out and took the equipment down and gave it to us to take to our beach house.Once we got there, we called ADT to reinstall and continue our service and a technician came out to do that. So far, so good. Then we had Hurricane Michael, a Category 5 hit the Gulf Coast. My wife did not wish to live on the Gulf any longer and we put the house up for sale. During the contract negotiations, the new owners expressed their desire to keep the alarm system and we agreed. We closed on March 4 and ADT told us the new owners had 30 days to activate the account in their name. So far, so good. Yesterday, I was charged $57.77 for services on a home I no longer own. I reached out to our realtor who found out that the buyer no longer wishes to activate the system. Not good. I then began the tortuous process of trying to get services transferred back from the beach house to my home in Jacksonville Florida. Over the last 2 days, I have found out that I was never dealing with ADT, but Defender. My contract was never with ADT!!!!! To further confuse and add to the frustration, the account that was for my Jacksonville house was never closed out by Defender/ADT and is still considered an active account, so I can not have the system installed at my home in Jacksonville because they are showing it as being still active in their(Defender/ADT????)system. Meanwhile, I have spent hours on the phone being told contradictory lies, transferred from department to department and from ADT to Defender and back again and hung up on!!!!!! But I am still being charged for a system I do not have and can not have installed because of a mistake made by ADT/Defender in not cancelling the account when I did everything I was supposed to do when I relocated to my beach house. ADT/Defender did not cancel the old account, but they activated my new account and had 2 accounts running concurrently. They are now trying to figure out how much I overpaid, but I have to wait on them. In the meantime, I have no alarm system and can not get one because of their error and I am still being billed. I will NOT do business with this company again!!!!!!!!!
Your company has terrible sales people
Your company has terrible sales people. One guy was basically harassing me earlier on why I don't want to sign up for the service. I was polite and kept telling him thank you but no. It's like they can't go back with a no answer. I have nothing good to say about ADT now, and I will definitely share the poor experience with others.
Cancelled ADT contract yesterday after…
Cancelled ADT contract yesterday after they didn't show up for a scheduled appointment again (this was the 3rd time)! Cost me another half day of work. I lived up to my part of the contract but ADT did not.
Followed up with the ADT rep who responded to this complaint - they had no concern for my situation even though ADT was at fault. I will never do business with this company again.
Would give 0 of 5 stars
One of those I would leave 0 of 5 if that was possible. I have been in my new house less than a month and every single day (sometimes 3 or 4 times a day) an ADT sales person has come up to my front door. One of them was waiting outside my house for me to get home. (I thought it was a neighbor's car till I watched him get in and drive off) They all keep congratulating me on the new home and i have no idea where they are getting their info. Regardless of how many times i say no and my no solicitation sticker, they just keep coming. They only protection i need is to be protected from THEM (ADT). Calling corporate was no help. *** editing because I forgot to mention THEY ARE DOING THIS WITH THE CORONA OUTBREAK GOING ON
Constant spam.
Constant spam.UBE spam.you need to clean up your 'business practices'.
WORSE COMPANY EVER
I have no other option but to rate it 1 star. ADT is the worse company I've ever dealt with. From beginning to NOW 3/20/2020. I can't go into much details at this time. BUT JUST TELL YOU TO STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY, DO NOT GET SERVICE FROM THEM, YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!!!!!!! I'm giving you and honest advise.
Horrible Experience with Technician
I just had a horrible experience with the ADT home installation technician. I was told that they would come out to do a home assessment and I could choose to install that day or not and I would be refunded my $99 installation fee. Sounds simple, right?
After their assessment, they quoted me $10,000 for equipment and $59.99/mo for their monitoring service (Whoa!). Sound like something you would want a moment to consider, right? Well, then begins the hour-long high pressured sales tactics (or as they would phrase it - helping you to get a good deal for home protection).
Ultimately they lowered the equipment fees to $2000 and $38.99/mo for the monitoring service (why not just offer that up front?). I told them that I was a bit blindsided by the initial quoted high costs, frustrated with their sales tactics, and would need some time to consider. So essentially, thanks but no thanks for now. Then they put me on the phone with their manager who had the nerve to tell me "well, you have wasted our time, when we could have been in another home helping another family get a great deal on home protection, you took that opportunity away from another family". WHAT?! I could not believe that they would accuse me of that in the end.
Do not waste you time with this company.
ADT had SafeStreetsUSA install our system....
SafeStreetsUSA installed our ADT security system a year ago. They were very detailed on how to use the equipment, and also on how to pay them (and their termination fee). What they left out, of course one of the most important aspects of a security system, is that you, the homeowner, needed to register the system with the police. After a year of service, we had a sensor go off, and we were notified by the monitoring service that it went off, but the police refuse to go and check on it due to the fact our system was not registered. This is the first time we heard of having to register our system with the police. What is the point of having a security system if the installers/sales people do not inform you of this? So we have basically been paying a service that would not have helped us in an emergency. We never had a system before this, but we were supposed to know this fact. When asked what would we do if there was a home invasion during the night, with my family sleeping, they said we could have called 911. Really, just ask the guys that broke in and pointing a gun to my head for a "time out" so I can call 911? We got bounced around and then was told that we cannot go above the supervisor to the supervisor's manager because "those people do not return phone calls to people like us". They offered us 2 months of free service - I guess my family's safety, or lack thereof in the last year, is worth less than $100. So, as a very unhappy customer, I am filing a complaint with the BBB against SafeStreetsUSA, and against ADT.
ADT is the worst at retaining long time…
ADT is the worst at retaining long time customers with newer models of their security systems for fractions of a cost in the long run. I've been a customer for over ten years. The battery has gone dead several times and they want to charge me $25.00 each time for someone to come out and service the account, I have extended coverage on top of it. ADT should credit my account for having me listen to the endless beeping day and night.
