Bait and Switch
I recently built a second home in Jacksonville, FL, and as part of the purchase, the national builder included a “free” security system through an agreement with ADT. Initially, I visited ADT’s website, which advertised a “free online quote.” However, to access any information, you’re required to enter personal details—and instead of receiving a quote, I was immediately inundated with calls from aggressive sales representatives. When I finally spoke with a representative, I explained my situation. She placed me on hold to review the specific offer tied to my builder. She informed me that the package included a digital control panel, three door contacts, one indoor camera, one outdoor camera, and a motion sensor. Since I wanted a more comprehensive system, I requested pricing for additional equipment: a second outdoor camera, three window contacts, and a second control panel for the upstairs. She quoted me $240 for the upgrades and said monitoring would cost just $7 per month—a rate I knew was significantly lower than most providers. I asked twice to confirm this wasn’t a promotional rate or tied to a long-term contract, and she assured me it was part of the builder’s deal. I agreed to the package, booked flights to be present for the installation, and met the installer two weeks later. Unfortunately, things quickly unraveled. The installer said he needed to assess what components were needed, but I explained everything had already been decided. He then informed me that the pricing I was given for the additional equipment and monitoring was incorrect. After consulting with his Regional Manager, he said they would not honor the original quote. In hindsight, I would recommend exploring smaller, local independent security companies. They often offer excellent technology and far superior customer service.

ADT is absolutely a horrendous company
ADT is absolutely a horrendous company. We had an older system at our first house and thought it worked well. Then we moved and had them set up service at our new house. In spite of being told that we qualified for free setup due to our long relationship with the company, they charged us $1400 for install. We were okay with this as long as the system worked. It doesn't. Install was done by an incompetent person. One door sensor fell off within hours of him leaving. One door sensor stopped working the next week. The worst is that we started having unexplained alarm events in the middle of the night. The police come to the house, and our ring cameras show nothing is happening to cause the alarm. Now, we can't use our alarm at all. I made a service appointment to see if it can be fixed. The tech is a no show. I call to reschedule. Each time I call the 1-800 number they tell me they have to transfer me, and they disconnect. Each time I attempt to reach customer service via chat, they tell me their system is down. There is no customer service and there is no actually security from this system. I would never use them again. EDIT: After multiple complaints via BBB and Trust Pilot, ADT finally sent a tech to my house. He confirmed that (1) our install was done completely incorrectly and that the company does not train its installers, and (2) told me that ADT's product is not well-made and will continue to have false alarms and is really not worth having anymore. He said he recommended we choose another company if we wanted an alarm that works. In spite of this, ADT refuses to let us out of our contract. So we are stuck paying for a system that we cannot use due to false alarms for the length of the contract. The company offered a 1 month refund . In short, DO NOT use ADT and DO NOT sign a contract because you can never get out of it even if their system is so bad you cannot use it.

Not happy with ADT
Not happy with ADT. Had my ADT system for about 4 or 5 years and wanted to upgrade the system to add a door bell camera. They have changed their system and have left our system behind. What I have will work but I am being left behind because they are going to another platform (google). So I need to buy into the google platform just to add a doorbell camera and be able to look at a camera feed will cost me 500$. And it doesn’t integrate with my. Old system. Going to look into another system. Should have at least offered an upgrade path but they are upgrading me out of a useful system. Going to look into alternatives. ADT does not value my business

Hidden fees at term8nation
I was a long term customer of ADT, the service is expensive and I often wondered why I kept the service. In August 2025 I moved and called ADT to cancel my service agreement, I was unaware of the additional month of continued service but I accepted the charge. Then I received a $250.00 cancellation charge for my account. That was unacceptable. Being smarter now that I was a customer I would never go back to ADT, there are many other security services that offer lower monthly cost and no unreasonable termination cost. Beware of hidden fees, do your research and define the exit strategies before signing up with ADT. I will never be an ADT customer again, I’m happy with my Ring Security Stystem.

We had aa new system installed in August
We had a new system installed in August. (2 1/2 months ago) Within a week one of the smoke detectors began beeping every 40 minutes, night and day. I called ADT, and was told that the batteries that they install with the devices are junk. They said they would immediately send us new batteries. Rather than lose another nights sleep, I went to the local store and bought batteries. Replacing them did no good. Still, every 40 minutes, another beep. After four more calls, ADT said that the smoke detector most be defective. They scheduled a tech to come- in 5 weeks. Yesterday was that day. ADT never showed. They just called to reschedule in two more weeks. Is this for real? This is allegedly a security company. Heaven help me if I have an actual fire…

ADT Review
ADT Review – Warning to Future Customers I never signed up to be an ADT customer — my account was transferred from NorthStar after some lawsuit where they gave away accounts. NorthStar was amazing. They cared about their customers. They would send a technician to my house for free, mail me replacement batteries, and charged around $40 a month. If I moved homes, I would’ve gladly stayed with them and they would have moved my equipment too. But when ADT took over, everything changed for the worse. I recently bought a new home and wanted to move my equipment, which was still working perfectly — the garage door, cameras, alarm, thermostat, and lights were all synced in one app. ADT told me my equipment was “outdated” and couldn’t be used anymore. Instead, they forced me to buy all new equipment and doubled my monthly payment to around $80. The new system is terrible — fewer cameras, constant glitches, and a doorbell camera that hasn’t worked in months when the doorbell doesn’t even ring when people press it. When I finally called customer service, I was made to act like their technician. The rep told me to grab a screwdriver (didn’t work), then nail clippers (still didn’t work), then to use a needle or earring to press a reset pin. After all that, she disconnected the camera and then hung up on me without calling back. I later spoke to another rep who told me my hardwired doorbell “just needs charging” and that I should remove it regularly to charge it. I explained it would never need to be charged by the installation man I explained that it’s hardwired and was sold to me as such. Why would I ever buy a system that requires me to unscrew and rewire a doorbell just to charge it? That’s absurd. When I asked to cancel, they refused to waive cancellation fees — even though their equipment doesn’t work and I was clearly misled. A manager promised a free technician visit to fix things, but no one ever called to schedule it. Five days later, still nothing. When I called again, another rep said it’s “not ADT’s problem” and pushed me off to SafeStreets, the installer. I pay ADT every month, yet everyone keeps passing the blame instead of helping. The final straw was when one rep said, “Well, at least the alarm works — that’s what keeps you safe.” That’s not the point. I didn’t sign up just for an alarm — I wanted a reliable smart system where I could see and speak to whoever is at my door, that had a working doorbell. I wanted to Use my cameras all of them including the garage camera. Meanwhile, my tenant still uses my old NorthStar system through ADT (the one ADT called “outdated”) with zero issues.

My experience with ADT Security Systems…ADT should change name to NOT
My experience with ADT Security Systems has been nothing short of a nightmare, marked by malfunctioning equipment, incompetent service, and a callous disregard for customer needs—especially for my elderly mother, who was repeatedly disturbed by their faulty system. It really began several years ago when ADT acquired our original security company, “Protection One”. But the last straw—two months ago, our ADT security system began malfunctioning when the smoke detectors started chirping, indicating low batteries-a loud chirp approximately every 60 seconds. We replaced them with known, good batteries, but the incessant chirping persisted. Worse, the system began triggering false fire alarms at 2:30 AM, randomly, jolting my elderly mother awake in a state of panic. Our attempts to resolve the issue through ADT’s customer service were exasperating. We endured multiple phone and video troubleshooting sessions, which were frustratingly ineffective. ADT eventually sent a technician, but this visit was a waste of time—the technician couldn’t fix the problem and even provided an incorrect diagnosis, leaving us no closer to a solution. When it became clear the system was unfixable, we tried to cancel our monitoring subscription and have ADT remove or disable the system to stop the disruptive false alarms. They refused to cancel the subscription or shut down the system, instead shuffling us between call center agents and so-called “account management” personnel. Fed up with ADT’s evasiveness and utter failure to deliver a functional service, I took matters into my own hands and ripped the system out of the wall, disconnecting all power to stop the madness. I informed ADT we would not be paying the upcoming subscription bill, as their service was not only useless but actively harmful. I strongly advise anyone considering home security to steer clear of ADT—they’ve proven they care more about locking customers into contracts than providing a reliable, respectful service.

I am a ADT techinician/ service still not working
I had no service as of last night due to technical issues with the ADT system. I had a virtual call where I had to be the technician. I had to locate my box and do everything a technician would do but I have a job already. Two minutes after I worked over an hour rebooting the system the same code appeared. This is very time consuming and frustrating and I still don't have ADT security protection tonight but I am paying daily. Then when I called back they want to charge me for a technician coming out but no one compensated me for the hour and twenty minutes that I tried to fix the system. I finally reached someone on the phone at ADT and they are sending a technician in 5 days who will charge me for labor. The ADT operator could not tell me how much. This is poor unacceptable customer service. I need to find a better security service.

Worse equipment and very poor customer services
My experience with ADT has been extremely disappointing. From the very first day of installation, I faced continuous issues — low battery warnings and poor signal problems with the door sensors. When I called customer service, the earliest technician appointment was a month later. Even after they came and fixed one issue, another problem appeared the next day, whether it was a new battery issue or another sensor malfunction. I also don’t understand how the batteries they use stop working just after a few days, and to make matters worse, they charge $59 for each service visit. Based on my experience, I strongly recommend thinking carefully before choosing ADT for your home or business security. In my opinion, they are not a reliable provider.

What has become of ADT? Disappointed customer.
Anytime I thought of home security, I think ADT until my recent experience. I had been an ADT customer for 3 years and before that 5 years at a different address. I reactivated my service and a tech came out to check my equipment. The doorbell camera could not connect to WiFi and I was told the only option I had was to upgrade to a Google Nest doorbell camera. The tech told me that the price was $250 which seemed a little expensive. Since I figured I had no other choice, I agreed. I already had a wired doorbell camera and asked if I was going to get a wired doorbell replacement. I was told yes. After it was installed, a week later, I noticed on the box that it wasn't wired it was a battery. When I called ADT, initially they told me I could replace it as it hadn't been 30 days. She told me that I could convert the battery camera to a wired camera if I wanted to keep it which would be an additional fee for a tech to come out which I thought was unfair since I didn't get what I thought I was paying for. She said that's fine and transferred me over to cancellation services. When I speak to that representative she tells me I only had 3 days to return, which isn't true. The 3 days is for cancellation of the contract and not equipment return. Then she says, it was an add on and they don’t accept returns for add ons. That was also not true since my doorbell camera was not working and I was getting a replacement. It wasn't additional equipment added on. Naturally, I would need a doorbell camera as part of my service and that was the only one I was told that they had. One thing I was not told was that I could buy my own camera and set it up as I wish instead of paying for marked up equipment. On top of that, they told me ANOTHER issue. I had a past due balance so I could not return because of this, although I was able to sign up for service and was not told about the balance. From every company I know, if you have a balance, they will tell you and expect you to pay that first. I seems to me ADT promotes misleading information on pricing and makes up policies based on who it is they are talking to. It said nothing in my contract about equipment returns but that didn’t stop them from milking that 3 day cancellation as if it included equipment. Stay away. I realize that ADT is a household name but they are not customer friendly. Not saying they’re not polite but if you need assistance they won’t shy away from the opportunity to make you pay one way or another. I got the impression that they give you misleading information, or leave out information) just to get you to sign up so they can lock you in a contract. Once you're in they are like "too bad" you have to wait until your contract is up and by the way here’s a $50 charge for your trouble. I asked what the past due balance was and I couldn’t get a real answer. They are not forthcoming with information and if you don't know the right questions to ask, you're screwed.

Bad Experience
I ended up paying ADT $2,760 for installation on $3,233 worth of equipment. That is nearly $387 per hour for a 7-hour job, and ADT never itemized the charges. Their installation pricing is deceptive, relying on hidden fixed fees per item rather than honest hourly billing. I was also pressured into signing the contract at the end of installation, and their customer relations department was cold, rude, and dismissive when I raised concerns. If you want Google Nest, do not do what I did. Buy it yourself and hire a local tech for a fraction of the price.

HARD NO for ever using ADT again
I signed up with ADT and only needed their services for a year and six months because I sold my house. It was extremely difficult to cancel and took many frustrating phone calls to finally get it resolved. The early termination fees are excessive. I received, at least, six phone calls from ADT reps wanting me to transfer to my new house. I told each of them NO and to put my phone number on a do not call but they continued to harass me. Do your research and know everything in your contract because ADT is super expensive and traps you into large fees if you try to cancel. I will never use their service again and highly recommend you carefully learn their practices, pricing, and high pressure sales to get your money. I'm a HARD NO for ever contacting them again.

adt is a criminal scam outfit
adt is a criminal scam outfit. They hire offshore spam call centers to bug senior citizens - including those on the Do Not Call List - promoting their "service". This is illegal. Plain and simple, and I do not do business with criminals. Re their response: It's obvious that it's a rubberstamp intended to distract. It confirms my assessment of this outfits nature.

Can't get the system installed correctly
We purchased a system in February 2025. They came out and installed the sensors and panels, but things did not work well. They needed additional equipment and multiple visits, but here we are in September 2025, and the system still is not completely installed. They send different techs each time who do not know why they are here, don't have the equipment that was to be provided, and come from multiple office. And they try to charge us for the visits even though they are coming out to complete the installation. We never should have gone with ADT.

I was trying to pay off the remaining…
I was trying to pay off the remaining balance of my 3-year contract with ADT Blue. However, I was charged double the payoff amount. Plus another monthly monitoring fee too! I was on the phone with ADT/ADT Blue for over two hours just trying to get my contract closed and get a refund of the double charge plus the additional monthly monitoring fee. ADT Customers kept sending me to the AI customer service which was of no help to me and fueled my frustration with ADT. I finally got to talk to the Account Manager and he was very dismissive of my concerns and was too eager to get me off the phone. I will never use ADT again ......

After my first review about ADT’s…
After my first review about ADT’s hidden $900 technician fee, their public response asked me to email them details so a “specialist” could follow up. I did exactly as they requested. Weeks later? Absolute silence. No reply, no action, no accountability. This confirms my original experience: ADT doesn’t care about customers once they’ve extracted money. They hide behind scripted apologies and canned “please email us” responses, only to ignore you afterward. That’s not customer service.... it’s negligence. I regret ever allowing them into my home. I owned all of my equipment, I was misled into signing under pressure, and when I raised legitimate concerns, I was dismissed. Now they’ve shown they won’t even follow through on their own promises to investigate. ADT is not just deceptive; they are unreliable. Avoid at all costs. Below is the request from ADT which they have never actioned: " Reply from ADT USA Mar 16, 2025 Hello. We apologize for the frustrating experiences. Please email us at AlwaysThere @ adt.com with details of any ongoing service or account issues. Please include the address and phone number for where the services are located, so we can have a technical specialist follow up and troubleshoot with you further if needed. Thank you."

Waste of money….scams, stay away from ADT
We’ve had ADT for 5 years, and our experience has been extremely disappointing from the very beginning. When the service was sold to us, the representative assured us that if we were unhappy, we could cancel within 3 months. After installation, we immediately faced issues that were never fully resolved. When we tried to cancel within that 3-month window, we were told such a policy did not exist and that we were locked into a 5-year contract. If we canceled early, we would be required to pay for all 5 years upfront. We felt misled but had no choice but to continue. Later, when our camera stopped working, the service team informed us that if they even touched the equipment, we’d be charged a service fee of several hundred dollars—on top of the monthly subscription and equipment costs. Since then, the camera has never worked, and ADT refused to take responsibility without charging extra. To make matters worse, when I called today to finally cancel our service, the representative hung up on me out of frustration. That was the final straw. ADT has been a waste of money, time, and energy. Their business practices feel deceptive, and their customer support is unacceptable. I would strongly caution anyone considering ADT—please stay away if you don’t want to be scammed or taken advantage of.

Awful experience with ADT
I have had ADT for several years in my CT home and been happy. About 18 months ago I installed it in a VT vacation home. Installation was sloppy and expensive. The system is almost never able to be reset. Online and telephone support is awful. Even though I have replaced all batteries myself, the system cannot be reset and they want to charge me for someone to come out and look at it. This is on top of a $60 per month monitoring fee. Time to install a different system with better customer service.

Another company is way cheaper
Another company is way cheaper. Called to cancel and it took 30 minutes. During the call the agent said it was my fault for not having the best deal but that she could help. So I have to call and beg for competitive pricing? Embarrassing. After reading other reviews I should have gone somewhere else.

Used to be good
Used to be good, I experienced ongoing false alarms from a sensor in my basement (Co) At any time I call for assistance, they lack in-person tech support, or they charge $59 for a visit related to the cheap material used for sensors. I called today, and they were willing to charge me $ 59 just for the visit related to this defective sensor I made the decision to cancel my subscription with ADT due to poor quality material used and a complete lack of on-site tech support The response from ADT is empty Send us an email

Gary (Installer)was great Mr. Allan Blasky was AGGRESSIVE
Gary (Installer) came today to check my equipment and see what he could offer. If I could give GARY 5 stars I would. GARY WAS GREAT. I spent 2 hours on a recorded line with a Salesperson to get this set up. I told them I did not want GOOGLE in my home (as I will not comply with ALL my INFORMATION being shared with the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT and the other 15 companies ADT shares with). Once Gary got here he said no we have to install Google cameras. He called Blake CCTV Sales Manager (which was great). He told me what could be done. Mr. Allan Blasky was called to let him know Gary was not installing anything. He tried to tell me that he could hook up everything but no cameras and my monthly bill would be the same. I said No way as it is based on the equipment in the house. Mr. Blasky was aggressive, rude and tried talking over me to get me to give in. I refused called him a bad word and hung up Gary's phone (oops).
