I had adt for 3 years and just cancelled recently. I would not do business with this company. Their sales people are brutal in terms of forcing their highly overpriced sensors on you. I didn't listen and sales person was levid and left without even showing me how to use the system. That was 3 years ago. Comes to the call to cancel the service. They insisted to do the "mandatory" upgrade even after I canceled the service. I went online and rescheduled far in to the future just avoid dealing with them. I'd say I have never dealt with a company that focuses on sales sooo much, it's suffocating. Will never do business with them again period.
YOU HAD ONE JOB...
I was told I had to have a mandatory upgrade ASAP due to 4G conversion/cell tower communication. Okay. I try to schedule the appointment and they have nothing available for two months! No weekend appointments, M-F only. I get it scheduled. I was given a 5 hour window! Basically meaning I have to devote my entire day to sitting around waiting for someone. I wasn't told how long the appointment would take or what equipment they would need access to. I was logging into my account, waiting for my appointment and it says to secure animals. I do that...and wait. I call and hold message says I will receive an e-mail when technician is on their way. Okay. Then I get a work order e-mail. No one showed up but I got a work order e-mail basically saying the job was complete. I open the e-mail and there is note in there saying they didn't have a part and therefore couldn't do the installation!! It shows someone signed for me acknowledging this and then there is a note on there stating that was done because of Covid. So, let's sum this up. ADT says I have to make this M-F 5-hr window mandatory appointment ASAP. They give me no information about the appointment except it is an update that has to be done on site. Then, they have no availability for this super important update for 2 months! Then, they cancel the appointment the day of, while I am already waiting, and do not notify me that it has been canceled! 2 months! And they don't have the one part needed to do the only job scheduled. Wow. I called and it was confirmed the service appointment was "removed" due to not having the parts. They also said this is done through 3rd party and they don't check their inventory until they are about to do a job. What?! I understand ADT doesn't actually perform this appointment but you have to be kidding me. That is no way to do anything. That would be like me showing up to do my job and going, gee, "I don't have any supplies...I mean, I knew I'd need them but I didn't know I was out until I tried to use them. If only something can be done about that..." Then I'm told, someone will call me to reschedule. Wow. Wow. Wow. Waste my day and then want to waste another day? Not impressed. Horrible Awful service. I felt really bad for the customer service person I spoke with since he couldn't do anything about it and agreed with me that it was unacceptable. I mean, how are you going to tell me that my time isn't important? How are you going to make up for wasting my time? You could give me discount on services or credit a month or something...but I was offered nothing. Ultimately, we are just people with jobs, and our time isn't important....
Horrible service!
Update: after writing this review, ADT reached out. They have now credited the account and closed it. This was the way it should have worked from the beginning. While I appreciate them trying to make it right, this could all have been avoided if they could empower their phone reps.
Customer since 2006. 15 years!
Sold home and gave notice to disconnect a month in advance of moving out. Saw another monthly charge from ADT. Called and spoke to 4 different customer “service” agents. 1 hour and 42 minutes total on hold. States they cannot find where I called and cancelled a month prior but will cancel now and charge me for another month! Says it’s company policy.
My concern is that I followed their protocol and they have no record of the call to cancel previously!
Agents cannot help. They only have a script they read from. No path to escalate to supervisors.

TERRIBLE Customer Service We have received call from ADT on…
We have received calls from ADT on Saturday mornings for months, could not answer the calls, no messages left. Then we received 2 cards in the mail from ADT regarding some sort of upgrade. I phoned the number listed on the card to try and schedule a visit for the upgrade. I was given a date, but was given a window time of between 12noon and 5:00 pm, REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!. I insisted on a specific time to ensure that someone would be home. I was never given a specific time. This is very unacceptable, very poor service. I just read all the negative reviews and I concur. The amount we pay this company for service, you would think they would have better customer service and get some "mature sounding workers" to take the customer service calls. ADT, some of us do work and can't sit at home for 5 hours waiting for you all to show up. We have had your service for years, and have had no issues until now. I will tell you that all of the negative reviews that we just read is very disturbing, but after my experience, I know why you have such negative reviews. Can I just please have a set time that the technician will arrive, and not the FIVE HOUR window of time? That is unacceptable and extremely poor service. With all the negative reviews, one would think that you would want to improve your service or you just don't give a DAMN!!!!

ADT alarm did not protect my house and it was burglarized! I am out approximately 2000 dollars. Now they want to charge me 208.68 dollars for a system that didn’t protect my valuables. This is I thought was resolved last June 2019, by ADT,s Management. I am now getting a collection company hounding me for this cancellation charges. I have tried to resolve this three times with their poor management!!! I had the system for four years. I was only under contract for three of these years! Now they want more money for a house that I sold last July 2019. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THIS COMPANY THEY LIE AND STEAL. Use Simple Safe very good company. I may have to sue ADT for not saying what they are going to do. They are also hurting my credit report. Total scam ADT management. Get everything thing in writing if you talk to there management! I would give them an F for failure to resolve this issue! Don’t use them go to another alarm company that stands behind there words! There crooks!!!

Complete garbage
Terrible service, nothing but lies from the salesman and installer. Security cameras failed within 2 months. When they did work they would use all the available backup data within a few days and wouldn't record anything the remaining 25+days if each month. Poorly installed door sensors.... nearly all of them fell off. Brutal sales tactics, literally tried everything to convince me to sign the contract. I was going to purchase home security through "Ring" but Telus/ADT convinced me that their system was just as good or better. If I could I would take their heap of equipment and burn it in their lobby.

No stars, if possible. I am evidently locked into a three-year contract, and I had no idea I even had a contract at all; I believed it was a monthly fee that I paid. I definitely did not knowingly or willingly sign up for a three-year contract, when I wasn’t even sure if I would be staying in the neighborhood beyond 2 years.
ADT are totally scammers. What’s worse? They know it. They are completely aware that they are setting people up in these longterm contracts in a disingenuous way. Do a little research — there are many, many customers with the same complaint.
What they’re doing is evidently not illegal. At least, it’s gray enough for them to get away with it. But it’s completely unethical, and this company knows it.
Stay far, far away. Unless you know you’re going to love ADT and you know you’re not moving for a long, long time. I don’t know how anyone knows that ahead of time, but I guarantee you ADT won’t care when you’re trying to leave them.

This company is very unreliable and has very poor customer service, something that is very important when it comes to your homes security. I have a very basic system, 1 camera, 2 doors and a smoke detector. It was installed on April 10th and I have had to have a technician come out twice to my house to repair the recording of the single camera, another important part of a security system. You are unable to get through to customer service and if you leave a message they will not call you back. The reason for the poor review is to inform people of the unreliability and lack of customer service.
Worst experience
As many mentioned they tried to push me to sign a contract while I was getting a quote on the phone. I insisted on someone coming to the house. Before my appt I got multiple calls and no one seemed to know I was scheduled for an appointment. The salesperson was good or so I thought. The installer was great. The only highlight in this process. I was told I wouldn't owe anything at installation time but was made to pay a fee. I was told I could adjust my camera recording view through the website then found it doesn't work on your phone. I was then told to use my ipad. It didn't work on there either. Turns out you need a computer which I don't have. I ran out of video clips in 2 weeks but was never told there was a limit. Within 2 weeks my door lock stopped working properly. In less than a month I was ready to call it quits. I reached out to my salesperson Jazmin to discuss the lack of information and she has completely ignored my emails, calls and texts. Her boss made all kinds of promises that he didn't keep. Customer service wasn't any help either. I did make a tech appointment and ended up with the same installer Dustin. He was a huge help. Fixed my lock and used his own computer to adjust my cameras. Still don't have the issue with the video clips fixed. I so regret going with ADT.
Finally had enough
Finally had enough, never got to install. Called for a quote, was told they had to pull my credit report before I could get quote. Pulled my report and then furnished me with quote. Then immediately sent me a contract to auto sign. Never signed contract. Told it was to be in my husband's name as homeowner. Sent me another contract in my name. Called ADT for another quote and requested a tech come out. Tech came out, did walk thru with my husband, came to our office wrote down a quote and put in my husband's name, but first had to pull a credit report, again. Got another quote. Agreed to quote, signed a contract. Then the nightmare. Started receiving contracts in both names. Scheduled installation, tech came out, contract in my named. Told him no, should be my husband's. Said he couldn't install. Showed him my husband's signed contract. Sorry, can't install, order is in my name. Called Rep, said he had to redo contract. Sent another contract to husband. Then I receive another contract. Then hubby gets another contract, then I get another one. Catch the drift? Today installer comes out, sends another contract to both of us, same as the last 4 we received. Was informed he must sign because" it authorizes installer to do work". Unfortunately, hubby is attorney, and went ballistic. Nothing in contract to authorize install, just must sign another contract. Worst experience in my life.
Where do I start?
I received a post card offering $100 gift card for signing up with ADT. To make a long story short, I had to fight for months about it after signing a 3 year contract. They finally ended up crediting my account for the $100 but I wasted so much time on the phone and was always given the run around. That's just the first issue. Their technicians don't know what they are doing. It took a total of 3 visits to get the front door sensor to work properly. All of their equipment is junk. The doorbell camera hardly every gets triggered EVEN WHEN SOMEONE RINGS THE BELL. I know I have the setting on because sometimes it DOES get triggered. The video clips aren't long enough. I had a guy show up at my doorstop and he started rummaging around packages that were waiting there. The video caught the first 3 seconds of him there and then it stopped. You don't see what he ended up doing or him leaving.
Between the terrible customer service (including supervisors that don't care whatsoever) the techs that don't know what they are doing and the crappy overpriced equipment, I would vehemently discourage anyone from ever doing business with ADT.
Lithium battery in back of the Control…
Lithium battery in back of the Control Unit went out. Even though I'm paying monthly they don't replace those $40 batteries. Can't wait for my contract to be up.
After being an ADT customer for 20+…
After being an ADT customer for 20+ years, I switched to Simplisafe about 6 months ago. I could not be happier. Upfront, the cost was a fraction of ADT (~20%) and the ongoing monitoring is less than 50%. I installed myself so anyone can do it.
But I switched from ADT not due to cost but because of their deplorable customer service. No matter the issue, except selling the system, ADT was difficult to deal with. I do not miss them one bit.
As an added bonus, my Simplisafe smoke & CO2 detector LED lights are so much better designed than ADT's. At night, the ADT detectors' flashing LED's brightly lit the entire room. And the black electrical tape ADT suggested as a solution was not really a design look I favored.

I would give 0 stars if I could. I used ADT for a few years and then decided to cancel when we moved. I called on 3/4/21 to cancel and was notified that there was a 30 day period before it could be cancelled. That was no problem. Then I checked my bank statement and I had been charged $62 and some change for another month. I called ADT and they said that they weren't sure what happened but the paper work was not filed and I was not set up for a termination. The man, Jeffery, said he would make sure the paperwork was completed and that I would receive a refund. I did receive an e-mail on 4/9/21 stating it could take 10-25 days for me to receive the refund. On 4/28 I received a call at 1130PM from ADT that the alarm in the house that I NO LONGER LIVE IN went off and the fire department was being called. I told them I no longer lived in the home and that my service was supposed to have been canceled. The woman, Deborah, said she had no record of me canceling my service and this area of ADT was closed and I would have to call back in the morning. So who gets stuck with the false alarm bill from the Fire Department when the service was supposed to no longer be in service!? I call the next morning and talk to Helena who transfers me to Jewel who transfers me to another woman who refused to give me an employee number after every other employee gave me their information. I was told that they would not be able to back date my termination to March or April and that they would not be giving me a refund since I did not terminate my service. I was told the earliest it could be terminated would be May 28th! I was not allowed to speak to a supervisor because "we are working from home and they are not available." Ludicrous! Now I have to wait 3-5 days to speak to a supervisor. This is outrageous. My husband reached out to them on social media and received a response quickly but was told to write and sign a letter requesting termination and to e-mail it to them. They stated that they would look into the issue and get back to me. I've never had so much difficult trying to cancel a service in my entire life. I will not be returning and will advise everyone I know to avoid this company.
Fear mongering
Fear mongering! I keep getting calls from ADT despite telling them I am not interested. Today when told not interested, the agent said god forbid something medical happens to you and could not call 911. Making it seem like something was going to happen to me. I can call 911 myself thank you and most likely get them there quicker than you!
one of the worst customer service
ADT is one of the worst customer service. They put me on hold so many times than speaking to an agent!!!! Transfer here.. transfer there.... I am a very patient person but it took a lot of me to be extra patient and not use any profanity. What I do not understand is in this age of technology, why one agent cannot see my bills and I have to be put on hold and speak to another agent regarding about my transactions!!!! Cancelling my account was another issue!!!! After being put on hold so many times.. I finally did.

I am a business that was affected by the pandemic and we had to close our doors. I called to cancel service, and was told I had to pay $563.00 to finish out contract, then ADT submitted a bill request for $695.31 from my bank account! When I called they could not tell me why the increase and offered a refund of the difference. So they were going to steal from someone when they are already at their low. I did not receive any financial assistance for my business failing but they have the nerve to try and take more from my family. So very sad that a company feels they need to take advantage of others. Want to add I paid my bill on time for the 2 years of services I already received. Will not recommend them to others.

As a customer since 1993 (previous owners Devcon Security) I expected much better service. We moved to a very rural location 7 years ago, and transferred our service with ADT. We no longer feel the need for monitoring. So, 8 days before our next billing, I called and cancelled service. I was told it would take 30 days to cancel. Really? Just flip the friggin' switch to turn us off. I advised the representative that we were paid in full through 3/25/21, and with 8 days remaining, I was certain they could figure out how to turn it off by then. I advised her that we would not pay for service past 3/25/21.
Since that call we have been inundated by calls on our home phone and my cell phone from ADT. We received a statement for the 30 days past our cancellation date. We will not pay for service we requested be discontinued. There is no email address to contact ADT, and the phone lines are always so "busy" that the wait times are always estimated to be 10 minutes or longer. We are done for good with ADT.
Scam/Misleading/Unhelpful
ADT is misleading and do not care about customer service. Two years ago, my husband and I purchased an ADT security system plus monthly monitoring. I had a five year contract. I was hesitant about the contract because my husband is in the military and we could get orders to move anytime and I did not want to be stuck with a system I was not using. The sales representative, installer, and customer service representative I talked to assured me that if I were to move, I would be able to take the equipment with me and transfer services to the new location. I’m am frustrated because I was told by a “moving specialist” today that they do not uninstall and reinstall a security system. By the way, my contract does not state that they don’t transfer equipment. (They just won’t do it) I feel like I got scammed. I can technically take the equipment with me
ADT flat out sucks
ADT flat out sucks. I foolishly installed a camera system... I wish I could post photos. I mean, holy crap the wiring was bad. I mean bad to the point the sales guy was shocked. I just want to remove the cameras and move on without this pathetic system. Oh, and the night vision on cameras is not good, the AI they advertised does not exist, and there is no alerts for motion detection. It's a crappy system. Should have stayed with my other system - which I didn't think could possibly be worse but ADT surely found a way. Note: My profile photo is the result of ADT's work in my master suite. Adt is the biggest scam I’ve ever felt with. They run your credit and if you were to miss payment they would ruin you. WELL ADT WAS CHARGING ME FOR 2 ACCOUNTS FOR 8 months. The issue would have never been figured out till I found the issue. Once I found the issue took months to get my MONEY BACK BUT REMEMBER YOU HAVE TO PAY THEM ON TIME OR TGEY RUIN YOU. THEY SAY MOVING IS NO HASSLE WITH THEM. Since Telus bought ADT their customer service has gone down to negative zero. For the past two weeks, going to third week I have calling and emailing ADT to get an agent to come to my place to update my security panel. No one at the company gives me any answers,I follow up email, no response. This has become very frustrating!!! Of course, since the all the departments are outsourced to countries outside of Canada. I was once put on hold by one of ADT’s customer service representative, the next person that comes on line was heavily accented from a completely different company. I instantly hung up. But seriously, a security company should have more secure phone lines.
Terrible company
This company, while it has a strong brand, has terrible customer service. Customer service representatives literally hung up on me when I tried to cancel. They lock you in to long-term contract agreements. Go with another company!
