ADT is very Deceptive
Please report ADT to the BBB and to your state Consumer Protection Division Office of the Attorney General. The more people that complain about ADT the more we can raise awareness to government officials to look into ADT deceptive business practice so that the government officials can stop ADT deceptive business practice. ADT act like they are untouchable. ADT not only deceived and tricked me into a three year contract but many others. They prey on people ignorance. ADT Security has horrible customer service.

My experience with ADT was horrible
My experience with ADT was horrible. After recently buying a home an ADT rep showed up to my house completely unannounced to do an initial walk through/assessment and recommend security system products. However it was a very inconvenient time and I almost turned him away. And it wasn't a quick walk through either, it took about an hour and a half which is a significant amount of time for something that wasn't scheduled and completely out of the blue. I didn't have any home security at the time and it seemed like a good idea so I agreed to get just the essential basics, nothing fancy. The installation team came the following week to install the system and tried to get me to buy a bunch of extra stuff that I didn't need and it was very frustrating. And then a week later another ADT rep shows up at my door to do the initial walk through assessment because he wasn't notified that all that had already been done. But like the first rep, he too showed up completely unannounced without any kind of notification, and I almost lost my temper at him. ADT needs to get their act together and SCHEDULE appointments, not have their reps show up out of nowhere without word. It's very rude and extremely inconvenient. Also, just a word of caution too, none of them mentioned that when you buy into their system it is a 36 month contract and if you decide to cancel with them (which I was seriously considering) they require a 75% cancellation fee of the remaining monthly contract balance which can be quite a hefty fee. It's written in the contract but make sure you read it in the fine print, or ask them about it before signing anything because they won't tell you that! If ADT shows up to your door, ignore them and don't let them in, they don't deserve your time or your business. There are plenty of other home security companies out there that care far more about their customers than ADT does.

I’d give zero stars if I could.
I’d give zero stars if I could. Ive been with ADT since 1996 so think I would consider myself a loyal customer. After the experience I just had I see it’s a one way street!! I had a full hardwired system installed by ADT in my custom home in 2010. A few days ago my family was awoken at 1:30AM by a carbon monoxide alarm at my furnace in the basement. The fire department was dispatched and luckily there was no carbon monoxide detected. The unfortunate part is we realized the carbon monoxide detector expired in 2015!!! Needless to say I was PISSED! The fire department was appalled. They disconnected the detector as it would not stop chirping. After obviously being shaken up by a alarm like carbon monoxide we all settled down and went to sleep. At 4:30AM the alarm went off AGAIN but now for a carbon monoxide alarm at my second furnace upstairs!!! Once again fire department was dispatched and came to clear the house and you guessed it......the carbon monoxide detector at this furnace expired in 2016. The fire department was equally annoyed again and disconnected the second detector upstairs for the same reason and the one in the basement. Now I was seeing red like a bull. I called ADT and vented my anger to several people and clearly stated they endangered my families life!!! I pay my monthly bills on time and have a maintenance agreement. They knew when they installed this equipment but didn’t care at all to replace the items that were grossly expired. I was told they were sorry for the inconvenience but would replace the units in 24 hours. Sorry for the Inconvenience????? They jeopardized my families health and well being and they consider that a inconvenience??? Well....they cancelled that 24 hr appointment and scheduled for the next day. Yet again, they canceled the appointment again for the following day as well. They now want to schedule me for a week later !!! I ask anyone considering ADT if you think a company like this is someone you’d have safeguarding your family? After knowing all I’ve been through am I being treated fairly? They know they could’ve KILLED my family with their gross negligence and they just cancel two appointments and push me out a full week knowing I have ZERO carbon monoxide protection due to their complete incompetence and negligence!!! The terrible part is you just can’t get to anyone that cares or can make a decision in this company! They’d rather install a new system elsewhere before worry about safety!! My advice....TURN AND RUN!!!!!

ADT gives terrible customer service and is a terrible company
ADT gives terrible customer service! They raised my price twice, so I found a better service and called to cancel. After more than 30 min on hold, I finally got through to their account management department, spoke with Mark and cancelled my service. He put me on hold and then the line went dead. So, I called in again and learned that my account had been cancelled, got the confirmation number and thought I was OK. Until I got my next bill! So, I called in again and was told by Cynthia that my account had never been cancelled, and that I was still under a contract (which I was not), and again transferred to account management. Another 30 min wait. Then I got Leshawn, who was helpful. I learned that I should not have seen a price increase, if my contract was verbal (something I was never told). In fact my price had increased by $13.79/mo (or a total to date of $192.62 to date). And that I DID have a contract for 36 months, which I was never told. And, that they required 30 days notice to cancel, which I was never told or saw in anything they sent. She offered to send me a copy of my contract, which I had never seen. And, she couldn't cancel my contract before my 36 mo date without charging me the balance of what was due. And, they couldn't rebate me the extra $192 I had paid for the increase in pricing, which would only be due if I had a contract. DON'T TRUST ADT OR DO BUSINESS WITH THEM! They really have fraudulent business practices. UPDATE on 3/31/21: Guess I shouldn't be surprised. ADT responded and asked me to contact them, which I did immediately. I took the time to give them all of the details that they requested. And, after another 10 days, NO RESPONSE. It is awful to get bad service, but many times worse to tell your customers you care, ask them for the details so that you can make it right, and then NEVER respond. ADT: it would be much better to tell your customers you don't care than to lie to them and show that you don't care!

Run far far away..
Run far far away... Had a system installed, 2 months later if that the smoke alarm 12 ft on the ceiling faulted and ADT said someone tampered it..okay yeah 12 ft in the air we were using it for batting practice. They wanted to charge me all this money to come fix their garbage..nope not happening...I'm paying the termination and ridding them once and for all and if I see adt creep on my property again they will have a bad day!

ADT is the absolute worst
ADT is the absolute worst! How they can be #1 is far beyond me. I have had service with them for three years and the cameras haven’t worked consistently the entire time. They make a deal to upgrade my system and nothing they say is the truth. Nothing is compatible with anything like they said!

Horrible Customer Service
Eqiupment did not work. REpeatedly came to house to fix and could not get it to work. Finally after a year we moved to another company. ADT is trying to get money out of us for termination fees even though there equipment never works.

I have been a long time member with ADT…
I have been a long time member with ADT -- I was supposed to be on a discount plan with USAA. I was making automated payments. Without being known to me, they raised the payments across several years and never informed me, and I was not getting the USAA rate. Now I'm trying to get my system working and the sensors were not working for over a week and a half. They charged me for follow-up trip fees despite the first system upgrade was never installed properly. The also refused to refund me during the time between their visits when their system was completely unusable. I just got off the phone with the customer service representative Takierra who was very unhelpful and cut me off at the end by hanging up when I was trying to verify the follow-up service appointment.

I contacted ADT for new service
I contacted ADT for new service. Was required to give social security number which I feel should not be necessary if I was paying upfront. However, I did. They couldn't find me. Not sure why considering my score is in the 800 hundreds and I own multiple homes. Upon meeting the service rep at one of the homes he couldn't find me as stated. I was told he would search better back at the office. From that point I was blown off. Messages ignored and never heard from them again. I understand that they say they wanted a ssn for offers but they could have given me a price for paying upfront at the least. I contacted Alarm Engineering never had a problem. Had quote next day and they said they don't need a ssn anyway. ADT treated me like a bad credit person just because THEY couldn't find me. Your loss ADT since I have multiple homes that need security systems.

3 YEAR SCAM- DO NOT BUY THIS SERVICE
ADT locks you into long term three year contracts that are impossible to get out of without them charging you through the nose. I tried to cancel our service and was told that if I waited until 2 1/2 years into the contract, it would be free...when I called back to do this, they went back on what they said, quoted me another $174 to cancel...but then the billed me $285. It's absolutely ridiculous. This antiquated, dying company is basically ripping their customers off to keep their doors from closing. We will never give them another dollar of our money- there are so many newer, better options out there that are less expensive without the commitment and offer an overall better service. Organizations that don't prioritize customer experience need to go.

Rude customer service
Rude customer service. Just moved in and old tenants were with ADT. Called them up to stop a constant beeping and was told that they wouldn’t help me unless I joined there and then. Thankfully managed to rip it out anyway without their help. Although I was considering joining them once I settled into my new home, I now definitely won’t after their rude service and will be joining someone else.

When Honesty Collides with Deception
We sold our house in AZ last week. We are from Canada and will not be able to transfer any of our services to another U.S. location. Just received a cancellation bill for an extra $1300.00 to apparently pay of 75% of my remaining contract. Here's the issue. It is recorded that back in 2019 I asked for a reduced fee as I was in the midst of a possible provider change. I was told because I had been a loyal customer for so long I would immediately receive a reduced monthly fee. THAT'S IT! I was never told about a new contract running through 2023 OR the consequences of cancelling prior to 2023. Then of course I asked for a copy of the contract, girl said she was emailing it as we spoke - maybe I'll get it in 2023. So now we are stuck with a $1300.00 bill for being 'A Loyal Customer'

I recently got a brochure in the mail…
I recently got a brochure in the mail for an offer that was 7 wirless sensors, keypad, doorbell, and a $100 visa card for $99 install fee plus $27.99 per month Called and signed up , technician came out an upsold me on a much more upgraded system with 14 sensors , ended up paying $1900 for this, which I was OK with. I realized the doorbell and gift card were not included after he left. Called ADT and they said the doorbell actually requires a $299 service charge to install. The AD clearly says it's free and "straight forward pricing". Talked to ADT and they won't do anything about it, so I just spent $1900 on a system and they won't even throw in the doorbell that is advertised as free anyway. Extremely unhappy and this is 100% false advertising on their part, unfortunate that companies like this try to screw you every chance they get and you would think since I just spent $1900 they would do something to help but nothing. I recommend going to another alarm company that "truly" has straight forward pricing or be prepared to be ripped off

If any one has or has considered using ADT I would strongly urge you to consider more honest companies. The sales person told me incorrect information to have me sign a contract that was not at all what we understood to be the case. Then upon canceling our services, the sales person called and harrased me about canceling going as far as to say that those cancelation fees are how the company makes their money. Why a sales person has my personal information is beyond me. When I called the company to address the issue they said they would not be holding the sales person accountable for unrecorded conversations. I wouldn't record anything either if I was being dishonest! After being promised three times that a manager would call (and they did not) I called again to be told the charges would be taken care of. A few days later the money came out of my account, unauthorized. When I called to address it yet again the manager that answered said that the previous person didn't have the right to waive those charges and that I needed to pay for them. They don't hold their employees accountable, they purposefully control what is recorded and not, and they certainly don't care about anything other than the customer's bank account. There are many security options with more affordable systems, no contracts, and a more honest ethic than ADT. I will gladly help you find one that works for you.

I have read the guidelines for reviewers, and I believe I am writing this within your expectations. I receive illegal Spam emails from ADT regularly. Per the US Can-Spam Act, it's illegal to send email marketing to individuals without permission. The fine issued per individual illegal email sent is over $43K per occurrence. The law is clear; product marketers, even those using a third-party marketing agency, need to comply. This company is purposely deceptive, which makes one ask questions about the authenticity of its products. I have a screen capture of the random email address from these email messages. If they were an honest company, in my opinion, they would not use a randomly generated email address for EVERY email sent. They do that so one cannot block future emails, and it prevents recipients from automatically forwarding them to their junk email folder. I believe this speaks enough about their intent to be a legitimate sender. They will ask that I use the unsubscribe tool; however, it's known in the industry that one's email address only becomes more valuable once confirmed using the tool. The marketing company might not send me an email regarding the unsubscribed product; however, they will sell my verified email address in multiples. ADT, I am not asking for much. Be a good company, respect individual customers' wishes, do not be deceptive, etc., and obey federal laws that protect consumers. I am willing to provide samples to Trustpilot so that Trustpilot can verify this report. Thank you for your consideration.

Completely unsatisfied we own our alarm system had them start monitoring it the last 13 years we had to do away with service due to not being able to afford it Due to COVID and the price that keeps going up . so we canceled service knowing our system would still work like it always had before monitoring. After service was stopped our alarm system was deliberately disabled by ADT Called them to see About getting a technician to come out to restore to original working device they said if we did not have service Or sign up with new service they would not come out to fix it. This is completely unacceptable We have recently lost our daughter to suicide and did not need this extra aggravation and just want our system restored to its original working condition thats all and can not get anyone to assist us with this . Would never recommend anyone to use this company.

ADT Rural Customers please read before you purchase from ADT
I have had ADT and I would not give them any stars here if I could. There service for this rural customer has been horrible. My ADT has never worked right, the one time that I needed my camera to have been working to turn into the police department it was not and ADT could not give me any good explanation to why this was. Then after requesting to cancel because I have been paying for a service that does not work they talked me into a better system at NO charge that would work for a rural customer, and it goes off all the time middle of the night for no reason what so ever, then to add insult to injury they are now billing me for three times as much then was agreed to with out my consent. I would not recommend their services to anyone in a rural area. BUYER BE WARE!!!

They suck
They suck! Our cameras are sometimes working and sometimes not. We schedule a technician to come and they don't even show up! I have a camera I bought from Amazon and it works 247! It just laughs at the ADT cameras. Well I'm going to another company ASAP!

I had Protection One for 20 years. When we built our new house we purchased a system from ADT. Nothing but problems. I definitely will never feel safe with a company that constantly has problems with no service. What a waste of money putting this system in. Money down the drain. Then they schedule technicians to come out and they are no shows after they send you an email confirmation saying they are coming with in a five hour window. I don't know about you, but I don't have time to sit and wait for a no show.

Terrible service now that Telus has…
Terrible service now that Telus has bought ADT. Once again they have missed a service appointment. Find another security company. To begin with I had to call twice about my carbon monoxide detector, and I received two different answers. They then booked a service call to fix the issue and the repair person didn’t show up

This company is absolutely terrible
This company is absolutely terrible all around! Has awful customer service! The guy that came to setup and install my equipment was more worried about what I was watching then setting stuff up correctly and explain how things worked. He could not answer any of my questions. Was very unprofessional. Tried using the equipment and the alarms would just go off for no reason. We tried to cancel it right away but they stated we couldn’t even though it states you have 6 months to do so. This is the company and experience I have ever worked with!!

Garbage system and liars in the service dept
The beginning of November 2020 ADT (Telus) installed a security system in my house. The main reason I got it is that I am disabled and spend most of my time in my bedroom at the back of my house, and I wanted to be able to see who was at my front door and talk to them, without having to get up. This NEVER worked. They sent another technician to my house to go over the system and he agreed, that it doesn’t work. On November 17th I got an email from the salesperson that said and I quote: “I talked with Zahid regarding this matter, and he says that the panel doorbell camera push notifications are still in "beta", which means that it does not work all of the time. We already tried all troubleshooting steps remotely and a tech returned to troubleshoot as well and followed all proper troubleshooting, and went as far as replacing the panel. So at this point Zahid confirmed that there is nothing we can do to resolve this particular issue, if you'd like to pass that on to the customer please. Sorry!” I have contacted the BBB and ADT multi times. They do nothing. I have repeated asked them to remove the system, to no avail. Today, two fire trucks arrived at my house because of an alarm that I didn’t even know was still being monitored. It was extremely upsetting and tatamount to harassment! I don’t know how to make them stop. I need help.
