Astronomical price to replace carbon monoxide detector
For several months I couldn’t figure out why my carbon monoxide alarm kept chirping even after I changed the battery. I called ADT to see what was going on. The representative told me that my carbon monoxide detector had expired and I needed to get a new one. He told me I would have to pay a $100 service fee in order to get it. Say what? $100? I told the representative the carbon monoxide detectors don’t even cost that much in Home Depot, Lowe’s etc. ADT charges the highest amount in home security and also high fees and/or charges when they come out to do something. Once my alarm sensor on the front door went out and I had to pay a ridiculous amount of money for them to come out to fix. I’ve been looking into finding another home monitoring system because these prices are ridiculous.

I sold my house and cancelled my ADT service. Paid what I thought was my final bill. They continued to bill me for months and yes I had long since fulfilled my contract. I called them 5 times as they continued to bill me for nothing. Each time the rep said I was correct and it was taken care of. Now they sent the false debt to a collection agency. Even sent a certified letter to corporate, got a letter back saying it was taken care of. I called the collection agency, at their request I sent them proof of when I sold my house and billing statements after my sale. Request denied. I have no choice. I will have to pay a bill I don’t owe ant eat $244. ADT by far has the most incompetent customer service I have ever encountered.

This company is terrible. Do not get into a contract agreement with them. Customer service is terrible and they tell you they can’t do anything for you and to write a letter to corporate. The person on the phone was very short and told me this is the only option and she would not transfer my call. I tried to cancel my service due to COVID-19. They told me there is nothing they can do except charge me over $1,000 to cancel. With so many other security companies on the market I would recommend looking elsewhere.
Communication between ADT and Defenders…
Communication between ADT and Defenders is not acceptable. They want to run your credit and start new contracts for relocations. Why??? We have an existing account....very frustrating. They promised new “free equipment” (there’s no such thing as free) This company is expensive and service fails. It sounds promising in the beginning but it has its flaws. Stay away!!!
It is not worth your money. Equipment was over $1,000 during our first contract. Neither company holds accountability.

LIERS! i was called back after i said i didn't want to install ADT due to the installment price. The MANAGER called me back trying to get me to sign up and kept saying how i was getting the $100visa gift card which would compensate for it. LIER!! its been months and i've STILL not received the gift card. I reached out to he company who i was told to and got the run around. Basically said i wouldn't receive the card until 90 days after the encounter date when i asked about the gift card. Nothing that upsets me more then liers and this company advertises the gift card and doesn't actually give it out. I will NEVER recommend them to anyone.
ADT stole $710 from me
I had ADT at my my old address for a few months, then I moved. I contacted ADT and told them I was moving, and the customer service agent advised me that the cost effective way to do that is just to transfer my service (rather than cancelling, and starting new service). So I agreed, and I was told they would be ending my service on my old address and there would be no additional charge for the transfer or set up. They came out and installed my system at my new address. I signed for the install, and paid $1000 the day of so that I wouldn't have to make payments for the next year. Then, I got a call that my bill was past due. I looked, and I was being charged over $300 (for the amount of time left on my contract at the old house that they said they would just transfer with no charge). I called, and no one had ever cancelled the old address, so I was being charged for both addresses. They said they corrected it on the account, and my account should show a zero balance in a week or two. Today, I looked at my credit card statement and saw that I had a new charge on it for $710. I called to tell them that this is an issue, and I was supposed to owe less money, NOT have money taken from me. They said they would correct it, and I asked for an email verification because the previous statements from the agents had not been upheld. They said they can't send me an email, but it was "notated on my account". I told them that wasn't good enough. They were unable to help. So I repeated the same conversation with an online chat so that I could screenshot and download a transcript of the conversation. I will supposedly be refunded the $710 in 7-15 business days. I don't know if that will happen. If it weren't for the fact that it would cost me even MORE money to start service with another company, I would switch service NOW, but I don't want to spend MORE money. This whole experience has been a nightmare. DON'T use ADT!!!!
Garbage equipment and service.
Garbage equipment - cameras that can't connect to a router at 20ft away, garbage software that doesn't even record video for more than 30 seconds... I could go on, but you get the idea. CHEAP, AMATEUR QUALITY GEAR AND SERVICE. COMPLETE RIPOFF.

UPDATE, AND IT GETS WORSE:
ADT lies to you when they sell their product and misrepresents everything about what they are selling you. They outsource their service to "authorized dealers" which is a total scam for one purpose: take your money as "ADT" and when you realize you have been ripped off, it's the "authorized dealer's" fault. When you call the "authorized dealer," they tell you they can't do anything because it's ADT's fault. As mentioned, they told me they would send someone out to fix the sensors and swap out the cameras for the one they sold me. Turns out, a tech from the "authorize dealer" shows up. Old man doesn't know how to set the camera up, used excuses that he "just got back from vacation" when they rolled out this "amazing new camera, latest and greatest" but he had never set one up before and had no idea how to do it. I had taken a day off of work for the service appointment and this guy spent hours in my home and got NOTHING accomplished in the end. He had no idea how to use the company laptop or how to connect the camera to wifi to even set it up. In the end, I dismissed him. Nothing accomplished. They said this was their "senior tech" and had assured me this was THE guy to make it right. What they did was send out a senior citizen who probably still thinks people still use pay-phones and betamax tapes. Unbelievable. He actually asked me if I could help him with his company laptop. He then admitted to me that he used to be a salesman. Fast forward, I have since canceled the service, which they are now trying to bill me for over $1,500. I have filed a complaint with my attorney general's office. This is a company acting in bad faith and does not care. I will never pay this outrageous bill, they sold me on something totally different than what the reality of it really is, refused over and over to take ownership, and when you talk to a manager to cancel your service, you are essentially talking to a LAWYER who is fully prepared to tell you why you still need to pay them for fraud.

I signed up for ADT security and when they came out to install the system, EVERY sensor was installed wrong (which I didn't realize until I had issues with them almost immediately after the tech left), and instead of installing the camera that was included in the package, the tech installed a Ring Doorbell. After he installed it, I objected at first because that was not the expectation I was sold on when I signed up with ADT. Tech tried to tell me it was better (but now I know it was just because he screwed up and already installed the darn thing and probably was going to get in big trouble if he had to remove it.) They retail for over $250. He made it sound as if this was a better deal than an ADT camera. The Ring Doorbell SUCKS and I do not say that lightly. It records nothing that you need it to and only picks up motion of cars already driving away and people at your door already leaving. There will be 8 to 12 hour periods, generally at night or during the day when I’m at work, where there is no “history.” I had property in my yard that was vandalized in the middle of the night and the camera did not record any of it! Then today I got an email from Ring saying today was the last day to sign up for a “protection plan” which is very misleading. Apparently, and unknown to me before calling Ring support, if you don’t pay Ring (not ADT) a separate monthly or annual subscription fee, their “protection plan,” it will not store any video! So for example, if you came home to find that your car or home was broken into, you have no way of reviewing the footage. What on earth is that good for? So not only do I have to pay ADT, I would have to pay Ring also! And again, 90% of the motion you would want to capture is not. I took my garbage out last week and was right in front of the camera; didn’t capture any of it. So in other words, I could get robbed or murdered in my own home and this “security camera” would more than likely not record the person breaking into my house. The tech also told me the battery lasted for “months” when it only lasts 2 weeks at best. And after the battery goes down past 75%, the performance is even worse. I called ADT and they are going to remove the Ring doorbell/camera and instead install one of their own cameras, which is actually monitored. Ring doorbell is not monitored unless you pay $100 a year to Ring. What kind of security camera doesn’t record what you need it to and doesn’t provide you security??

We had ADT for several years, but I recently called to cancel because we were moving out of state. My card had been compromised, so I received a letter that my automatic payment had been declined. I'm glad I did, because they were charging me for the prior month and a portion of the current month. I called and she explained that you are charged for 30 days AFTER cancelling. I told her that didn't even make sense, it should have been prorated for the month I cancelled service. Needless to say, I will not be using ADT when our house is finished being built and I want to make sure others realize that they do this.

If I could give a zero i would. Trying to cancel my deceased dads account and so many issues and being on hold for 2 hours is unacceptable. Do not get adt worst customer service ever!!! Who has time for that not me.

Adt is extremely hard to cancel with. They have charged my business credit card $5000.00 this year and won't explain for what. Terrible attitude towards customers if you ask them for an explanation. If I were a consumer looking for an alarm company I would look elsewhere. Anybody but ADT.
Buyer beware
Buyer beware! We ordered ADT through a third party who showed up to install, at 8am and told us he needs to be in GA, three hours away at 11am, leaving no time to install here. He didn't know how to install correctly, basically sat down showing me that he did what the video said, and didn't know why it didn't work. He installed our exterior cameras low enough that someone could walk up and pull them off. He never checked the inside camera to see if it was working. He set the sensitivity so high for the outside cameras they were going off constantly and we could see cars moving at the end of our block. We called to cancel and the same guy came back to uninstall. Here we are over 6 weeks later, and still waiting for refunds to our account. We have called them and they said the credits are in our account, and I saw them briefly and they turned around and reversed it and kept our money. They are refusing to give back the $99 install fee, stating due to covid, but it is really due to their team member not knowing what he was doing to install correctly. The equipment could be wiped down and reused. They also took an autowithdrawal out of our account long after the cancellation, and have yet to credit that back as well. They said they shut down the autowithdrawal, but I'm not seeing that. My next step is the better business bureau and an attorney.

I've (stupidly) been an ADT customer for about 18 years now. I should have cancelled years ago, but my partner enjoyed the false security of the entry/exit beeps with the system that was already installed in the home we purchased some time ago now. I would regularly get calls to upgrade service because they degrade what is offered. We noticed 6 months ago that this was a completely pointless service as we went in to do some construction on our home.. the alarm was completely disabled and we had forgotten to let the company know. It took them over TWO months to make the first call to see what is going on. Seriously. Don't waste your money.

i am very dissatisfied. i have had adt for 8!!! years. in the past week ive gotten calls in the middle of the night saying my alarm had been tripped. theyve now come out 3 times and hve yet to fix the problem. they even waked up my neighbor with a phone call. i am not at the location for 6 months out of the year. This company has not met my needs. If you are planning a security system i would look elsewhere. I couldnt give it 0 stars or i would have. There is absolutely no communication with the people who go out on a call and the people who run the business. I have spoken to 3 supervisors and have been apologized to a dozen times. Looking for other websites to complain about ADT.

Had a break-in in my trailer and some stuff was stolen so I wanted to upgrade get some closed circuit television or video the works
Upon calling in the customer service agent was very happy to talk to me about an upgrade and said that it wouldn’t cost me any extra money except $20 to my monthly account and that is all
With the technician arrived he was unprofessional and his demeanor was not customer service friendly in fact the training that he was with had better customer service talking to me than the master technician
Come to find out that there was a huge price tag for these guys to come and do this so they’re shock number one I denied the service they did something to my keypad and now it did not make noise once armed I never complain about it because I’m too busy
Once I complained about it and called into the retention department someone name Kiki was supposed to handle my case and call me back she tried calling me back once but the lack of follow up with the company has been scarce.
I’ve been waiting since June to hear from ADT about how they were going to correct what they did wrong but finally I had enough there are plenty of other options now in the market these days do you have a secure home and you can monitor it yourself along with which you can connect first responder services for a lot less
ATT for a company of your man to to drop the ball this bad on a customer that was with you for seven years and never complain you guys really need to get your stuff together
When I called this morning and said that I was wanting to cancel my service I was hoping that you were going to make one last ditch effort to try to keep me as a customer but now I’m going to use the time to bash you all over social media about how you guys just are not a good company you charge way too much for your services and all you care about is trying to upgrade people so you can make extra money that you don’t deserve
In an age in a time that where compassion is necessary I think all of your people need a retraining especially Management

I will never use their service because they spam me several times a week with email offers. I tried blocking them, unsubscribing, and reporting them as spam but they keep filling up my inbox.

I didn’t respond bc I know how rude they are and I wanted my service done. This man said he didn’t have time for this bs and walked out the front door cussing. If I could give the company no stars then I would. I don’t recommend this company to anyone who doesn’t have $900 to just give away. I called a month ago to be able to transfer service from my name to my tenants name because I had military orders from NC to California. The woman who helped me didn’t say much to me, but assisted my tenant instead. 4 days go by and I have a charge for $873 in my debit card which I wasn’t told was going to be charged and I didn’t approve of. Mind you, when I first got the service, the ADT rep told me that I had to and could continue making payments to my equipment, but I could cancel my service with no charge because of me being in the military. The charge was on November 4th, I was driving cross country November 7th so I was livid at the charge and lack of communication. This was money that was pertinent to my travel. I called ADT, I talked to about 4 representatives, finally the last one was able to “refund” me my money and it would be put in my account in 2 business days. Cool right? Wrong. I call back after 2 days, had to tell my story to about 4 more people, finally someone says that the refund was voided but she was able to refund the money and it would take 2 more days. So I waited, nothing happened. I call AGAIN. Explain my story to more people and mind you, my story is getting longer at this point. Multiple reps talk to multiple team leads and they finally tell me that my bank account rejected the refund so they mailed a check to my NC address but since I was no longer there, they could stop it and send it to my California address and it would take 8-10 business days. I check my account because when I checked it before, there was a $1,300 charge on there that no one had any idea where it came from so I wanted to make sure that it had been taken off since it said that it was due November 23rd. There was a charge for $25 on account that I had to pay Friday because they had said that since they refunded me the money, I was going to have to continue making payments on the equipment. So I did. Today was the 11th business day. No check. I called and the lady I talked to said that the bank never took the money from my bank account. How?! How did they not take money out of my account when I’m $873 short and my bank statement clearly says they did! So I ask to speak to a team lead because this is getting ridiculous. Finally I get connected to someone and after all of this.. he informs me that they cannot refund me my money and that what seemed to be a hundred people that I spoke to before him were all wrong and there was nothing they could do to refund me my money. This was literally the worst experience with a company I’ve had and according to the team lead that I spoke to today, they don’t have the best trained people on the job. I will never again use this company and I would not recommend.

Wouldn’t recommend this company to anybody. The customer service is awful. They make it impossible to cancel your account. I ask to cancel my account but the phone call takes forever. They say it’ll take about 10 to 15 minutes for the agent to answer, however, after 2 hours, they still don’t answer the call. I guess too many customers call to cancel their account. The funny thing is this isn’t the first time I call to cancel, this is my 3 or 4 attempt. I’m still stuck with it. I don’t know if I could ever cancel. So, if you think about getting adt service, don’t. Life is already hard and another burden from adt will only make it worse.

Stay away!!! We spent thousands of dollars switching to ADT from another provider (we are going back to them) a while back because of a move and we were told that this system would most likely work better for what we were trying to accomplish. Nothing has worked correctly from the start. Then the customer service team wants you to do all the troubleshooting leg work instead of sending a tech. Cancelling appointments, and showing up without them! There is a major lack of communication between ADT and the service/install team. The last guy came and took a doorbell cam cause he said it was too old, and was supposed to have a new one overnighted. I am 3 weeks later and still have nothing other than a hole in the front of my home where the doorbell used to be.

Worst security system I have ever had. They canceled appointments and wanted me to reschedule. They had a lack of communication and they try to get you to spend more money when they come out. Stay away from this company
Don't trust them
Don't trust them, had a agreement with salesman on the phone, installer cam out and tried to jack me up, that didn't work for him then he said the salesman should not have given me what he promised. Customer service would not let me talk to the manager.
