Terrible terrible terrible experience. I was with ADT for ~7 years. I was double charged in September 2023 . I called in they fixed for me. In November 2024, they double charged me again. I called in to ask for cancelation. They said they canceled it for me. When i checked my account in again in March 2024, I found i still got charged. Based on their story, the reason i got double charge is I have two accounts at the same address (this is so ridiculous). They only canceled one account for me. In called in many times. In March 2023, they said they could cancel all my "accounts" in a month (meaning i need to pay for another month). In addition, they need to charge me for the cancellation fee which is $221.18. Firstly I was with ADT for ~ 7 years. There is no more contract. At a late stage, they told me that the additional year contract is an automatic contract. This is even ridiculous. How come they put the customer on another automatic account. I called so many time and they just move you around. They even ask me to write an email to explain to them with more bank statement (is that should be their responsibility to check on their side?). I feel those people just lying. I end up paid 5 months that should be canceled already in addition of the bill i need pay for the cancellation charge of $221.18. Terrible terrible customer service. Do not get into their trap.

DO NOT GET ADT! Customer service is awful and they hide behind their 'policies'. They have currently taken almost $800 out of bank account AFTER I canceled services. I'm trying to buy a new house and they are destroying me. AVOID THEM AT ALL COST!

ADT has terrible customer service. They are clearly designed to frustrate you, hide behind policy and not do what is right. I could go on for hours, but they just plain suck.
I will never do business with this company again and am sorry I did in the first place.
Crappy service after 35 years
I’ve been a customer for 35 years. Over time I’ve had no issues; recently however, that’s all changed! I was advised that a system update was necessary and a technician needed to come to install the new hardware etc. A few days before the scheduled date I received an email saying there was no technician available and they needed to reschedule. OK so did they call me to reschedule? NO they just rescheduled it at some random time that didn’t work. I was able to reach someone to reschedule and took this afternoon off today for the appointment ( which was 1:00-5:00). I had to clear out a closet in order to gain access to the unit, thus making my place a total mess. At 2:40 they called to cancel AGAIN! Same excuse too! Now my window of opportunity has closed to get this system updated!!! Not happy to be treated like this after 35 years! Ring here I come!
ADT is the worse company to ever deal…
ADT is the worse company to ever deal with. We ordered camera system with them in November wasn’t installed until December. The quality is awful. They will not refund us our money back. I have been dealing with this for 3 months. Awful
Beware ADT payment practices
ADT billed me when I changed my service to another company. I had no problem with the contracted early termination penalty amount of $654.08, so when they sent me the invoice, I paid it with bank check. Meanwhile, without any communication ADT also billed my Credit card. I called when I saw the CC, and told them that they had my check. Asked that they either return the check or remove the credit card charge. They refused to return my check or remove the charge. They informed me that a refund would take another 5-10 BUSINESS DAYS. i just received an ADT invoice showing a credit balance of $654.08. This is a predatory business practice and ADT is not a company I will ever do business with again. Beware!
False Promotions
Do not fall for the please contact us so we can help you that ADT posts on negative reviews. I did and still nobody has been able to provide me with any proof that I am not eligible for the gift card promotion. I proved them to be in the wrong after showing them a copy of the exact promtion and the response was then well sorry its not in your contract. Here is the ploy of this promotion. They tell customers they are getting discounts on marked up equipment which is not a promotion it is the grey area they have to operate in the price of the equipment. After they tell you this they say they are not allowed to combine promotions which is false. Discounts on equipment is NOT a promotion. This gets them out of giving out the gift cards while still being well above profit on the equipment even after the so called discounts.
The process of getting a quote and installation was very easy. They did a great job ensuring I had the products I wanted for my home and did not try push me to buy anything. The installation tech was on time and did a very good job. Now my issue is with ADT advertising false promotions. Currently ADT offers a $100 gift card if the following conditions are met. 36-month monitoring contract and minimum purchase of $449 all of which I met. When I asked the sales person how to get this he said I was eligible however since I got a manager approved discount I was no longer eligible. Problem is the promotion does not say this at all and when I asked to speak to his manager I got no response. It is a shame because I actually had a very good experience and enjoy the products and montioring. I hope this is only a local ADT and is not happening nationwide to get them out of giving out the gift cards.
They did not provide service
They did not provide service. We could not arm the system. They insisted that we should pay when the service was not working. They sent it to collection as well! The gall is absolutely amazing.
They keep saying they cannot do anything as if it is written in stone. Even if it is, their invoices are written in stone but not their service commitment!!!
See below response where they asked to email them. In response, they emailed me the same thing saying I have to pay before they can do anything with the account.
They refuse to acknowledge that they did not provide the service. Is it so difficult to see that it is unfair and an unacceptable business practice to ask for payment without providing the service? Is this sense of entitlement?
Do not go near this company
Do not go near this company. Their customer service is appalling, and their equipment is poor quality and causes constant false alarms. Their pricing is not transparent, and their billing is chaotic. My system was installed less than a week ago and they are telling me that I am two months past due. I wish I had looked at Trustpilot before going with them, but with such a big name you don’t expect this. A thousand dollars down the drain, please be warned!

I am so disappointed with ADT. The services are none. My contrat has 180 days video registration. Called ADT but no video recorded so far. You are bound for 3years contract with scam services. So unhappy!!!

They changed my debit card before…
They changed my debit card before coming to my house, the sells representative on ask me what I had as far as a security system I told him,his reply was I can do better I'll give you a lot more equipment then you already have plus a free door bell all for $800, well tech gets out to my house and o ly has 3 items plus my free door bell to add everything else was going to be $1000 more, no thank you that's what I'm paying with the other security system I have. You can't you satellite internet with their system
ADT eventually solves the problem
After writing a disappointing review, Feb 23, about the lack of competence installing an alarm system for a commercial apartment building we have in Lambertville, NJ, we received a standard apology response from
Timothy L, at ADT Presidential Executive Response & Resolution. He offered to set up an appointment with an ADT tech for Friday, 3.1.24 with a 12-4 window. ADT called at 2 pm to cancel saying their tech had called in sick and could we reschedule. This was after having the alarm go off for no reason, the fire department showing up and having to deal with our very patient tenants to schedule access their apartments and shops. So we reschedule for the following Friday, 3.8.24, with a 12-4 window. Mid week, I received the standard appointment reminder email and Thursday and Friday morning, I emailed Timothy L and his executive team to confirm that we were truly on for our appointment, which they confirmed twice. Again, a no show, no call to cancel, nothing. I emailed Timothy L for an explanation but he couldn't be bothered, only saying that the service manager in our area would soon call, which he didn't. Timothy L has not followed up on his short comings and will not take any responsibility, but I'm sure after posting this review Timothy L will issue his standard apologetic email response. My recommendation, if you are entertaining getting a security system, not to go with ADT under any circumstances. BTW, I am a Builder, and work constantly with subcontractors and technicians and I would never again work with a company that refuses to take responsibility for their product and won't make a phone call to keep me up to date.
UPDATE, 3.23.24
Eventually, I was put in touch with the local ADT Tech Manager, who was very responsive and professional. He scheduled a tech to come around my availability, rather than a 4 hr window. When the tech arrived, he too, was very patient and professional. He resolved all of our issues, and took his time to verify with his office that all components were fully functional. Then he took the time to get my app (which was problematic) up and running. My take away is to try to deal with the local ADT team and not the management team. I now have their contact numbers and will only deal with them in the future.
I feel compelled to compliment when deserved rather than just complain.

I was a customer of Adt for 20 years. When I attempted to cancel my account in September, I: called on three separate occasions, was left on hold for more than 60 minutes on each occasion and was hung up on when I said I wanted to cancel, I use their chat function and was only told that I had to call when I explained that that was not working. I was given no other option. I sent an email explaining my frustration and that I just needed to cancel my account. The email states that I need to submit my cancellation in writing , they would not accept an email. I sent the cancellation in writing which I typed on my computer printed and mailed. I was then told they could not accept that because it did not have my signature .this process took two months. when I finally had enough, I took a picture of my signature and emailed it to them. Ridiculous, right? The kicker is they continued to bill me saying I didn’t give 30 day notice even though they had documentation of all the times I had attempted to call to cancel, so now I have a bill of $80 with Adt that they have sent to collections. at no time in September and October. Did anyone say that I had to submit my cancellation in writing they just said I had to call. Now I’m being harassed by virtuoso sourcing. They call me nonstop all day starting at 6 AM. I was an excellent customer for 20 years never paid a late bill. I have no outstanding debts anywhere and I am being harassed by collections agency because Adt has such poor customer service and poor communication skills with their workers .

I purchased a small business in September which the previous owner had ADT. We upgraded the cameras and security system when we took over. I've had nothing but problems with ADT! Our cameras aren't working and the alarm keeps tripping. When I contact customer service, I'm transferred to 10 people and never get a resolution. I want a technician to come out and help solve our issues, but all they offer is a virtual call. NO! Why pay for a service when it doesn't work and nothing gets resolved! This is an ongoing problem and customer service is terrible! I contacted ADT today to cancel my contract and of course there's a fee. And they want to charge to send someone out!! I'm done. I'm getting other quotes and when I get what I need I'm cancelling ADT! I'm so dissatisfied with your company all around. We were set up with a call on 3/6.25, we were transferred (surprise, surprise) and put on hold again only to be waiting on hold for 45 minutes and then got disconnected!
Terrible Customer Service
The customer service has been repeatedly incompetant. My system has not worked for over a year and I get the run around everytime I try to cancel my service. Very Sad!
Absolutely no customer service
Absolutely no customer service. After being promised that a “new” security system would be much better since they merged with “Google Nest” , I agreed and upgraded. The cameras a frequently offline, ADT blames Spectrum internet, even though network signal is very strong. ADT/Google Nest are in complete control and a customer cannot even change, Modify, upgrade internet equipment on their own. The entire camera system will go down and requires a 299.00 for first 30 min of labor, and 79.00 for every additional 15 min to reinstall and reactivate your camera system. They claim a customer can independently do this from their “Google Home App”, this is not true since their own technicians cannot do it even on a customers phone app. As a consumer I should have the ability to control my own Wifi network without requiring ADT labor services to “re-install the cameras “ and charge a labor fee every time I do a simple password change or even add a new mesh router to my home…I should have access to my own network to reconnect my cameras that I paid up front and am still paying monthly security service fees to ADT. Their regional manager that services my area is very rude, just looking to extra charge a customer. ADT Corporate is no different and offer a courtesy visit just to keep an unhappy customer quiet. No corrective action from ADT regarding many complaints they receive, someone’s got their back in which they feel they can abuse their powers and continue this unethical style of business.
Update; Spoke to corporate about issue above. Emily at corporate scheduled a new appointment at no cost. Upon technicians arrival, his regional manager in Anaheim stated Emily only put in their notes up to “250.00 credit” for the new appt, Emily never mentioned anything about a credit limit or extra fees rather just put her own notations on my account and the area manager stated the job would cost at the least “350.00 easy”. I was advised by him to call corporate again and request to pull “call tape” regarding that exact conversation. Again no customer service and we are being shuffled between ADT corporate, and its operational area managers. Im very insistent on pursuing this matter because there should be some type of corrective action taken regarding this type of business practice. ADT customers should have rights to their own systems, its features, and accessibility's inorder to avoid the need for “ADT Labor”. Consumers should stop getting scammed by these companies that monopolize the security industry .
ADT replies with an apology and asks me to send them more information about my experience, but doesn’t provide to WHERE to send them my concerns..ADT please supply customers a way to contact a specified department within ADT so we can get resolutions to the issues rather than just apologizing. Clearly contacting your corporate offices didn’t help.

BEWARE!!!!! Please choose another company PLEASE!!!! I wish I could give these cons a 0 star. They are really that bad, honestly. I was told I could transfer the contract to the new owner, in the event I sold the home. Well that's not the truth. Today, I mentioned I was selling the home. I was told I owed $1500 on the remainder of contract and $500 on equipment. I don't recall signing a 3 year contract, yet to have me pay for services I am not receiving is robbery. I then asked if I could transfer the services to the new owner since I'm being forced to pay $1500 for services I am not going to be receiving. I was told NO, the transfer can only take place in the case of a dead spouse! So, basically they are wanting the new owners to sign a new 3 year contact. This should be outlawed. I am planning to warn the new owners about ADT and recommend that they use another company. These people are unscrupulous cons. I will NEVER EVER use them again, mark my word.
**UPDATE** ADT contacted me again. The response was nothing but a sales pitch for me to transfer my service to my new home. THAT IS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN!!! CROOKS
After 6+ hours of "help", i could not enter my Activation Code
Bottom line up front: I spent over six hours chatting and talking with ADT experts and was unable to get past step 3, "Enter Activation Code" in the Self Setup process for my ADT Smart Home Hub. I finally gave up and plan to take the components to my local electronic waste disposal site.
I got the Self Setup Smart Home Hub package from ADT, paid for by Nest after ADT took over Nest's home security service. The 4 agents I dealt with were pleasant enough, but did not solve what must have been a simple problem. The problem was "escalated" twice — to no avail. First, I was having trouble logging in — both the app and the website kept saying my email was "already in use". When, with "escalated" help, I finally got past that and succeeded in logging in, the "Activation Code" they had sent me was rejected. After talking to an Account Manager, who also "escalated" the problem, I was assured several days later that my Activation Code would now be accepted.
When I tried again today, I got the "your email xxx is already in use" message again. I tried all 4 of my email addresses, 2 of which I know I never gave to ADT, and got the same response. At that point, I gave up and resolved to write this one-star review.
In their reply (see below), ADT said "Our team would be happy to assist you." Yes, they were happy to TRY to assist me, but they were unable to do so!
Find someone better
It all started when I let an ADT salesperson in my house. She lied to get in saying she wasn’t trying to sell me anything, but to look at old equipment. I repeatedly said no to the service, but they don’t respect that. I then had to be pressured by her supervisor over the phone, until finally I cried uncle. Now I’m laid off from work and have a $1000 cancellation fee they want to charge me. Bad practices. Company needs a soul searching.

Worst customer service there is. cancelled services on January 23rd. not once did the lady on the phone state that there is a 30 day notice you have to give. now we are in march and all of a sudden I get an invoice to my email stating that there is a bill 30 days past due I called to ask questions and was transferred to 4 different people all of them gave me different answers and then for them to tell me well I'm sorry I cant do anything for you as your account is cancelled and you will have to pay that balance. not to mention there 24/7 monitoring is a joke as all my company vehicles get broke into one night and all the Cadillac convertors stolen and not once did I hear from adt. 10/10 do not recommend this company

I would give 0 stars if possible Worst customer service I sold my house bought a new house was told if I transferred my service I wouldn’t be charged any equipment fee for the other house I have been fighting this for a year as you can see from other complaints the same thing adt seems to always apologize for the incorrect information but don’t fix the problem total false advertisement I have been a customer for 20 plus years and I asked to speak to some one in the equipment department which I was told I could not speak to that department. What a scam
ADP+ Scam (March 2024 - March 2025)
I initially signed up for ADT’s security service as part of a 1-year trial program after Google discontinued its Nest Secure system and referred users to ADT. ADT shipped over this box of 'equipment,' and I set it all up, expecting some magic. But guess what? The real 'magic' was that NOTHING WORKED. My existing Google devices had become invisible to the ADT app. Completely undetectable!
So, I call up their support, and what do I get? This nonsense:
"Oh, Google or Nest cameras? No, no, those won't work unless you buy them directly from us."
"Sensors? Nope, those are just fancy plastic pieces now."
"Locks? Forget about it. Oh, and by the way, we don't even support any locks, so good luck securing your entrances."
"Google's fire alarm? Might as well be a toy because it's useless here."
And when I'm practically begging for some sort of solution, what's their brilliant advice? "Oh, just throw another thousand dollars our way for our special equipment. Locks? Nah, you don't need those, just deal with it."
The promise of seamless integration was a complete farce. This isn't just a letdown; it's a scam, a total fraud. Absolutely disgusting.
3/8/2024 update:
The saga continues. Their boilerplate response (see below) appeared after my review, offering me to email their "always there" address. I did. They suggested setting up a "virtual tech appointment," to which I agreed. The appointment was set for noon on Friday, but no one called (so much for 'always there'), which is very rude and careless in my books.
Then, around 2:20 PM, the tech finally called. I had to explain what I needed three times (I'm not exaggerating), and after being put on hold for multiple 20 to 30 minute intervals, I was told that NONE of my existing Google/Nest devices would work with ADT+, and to make it work, I would have to shell out minimum $460 + tax.
When I asked for any sort of deal, they basically inflated the prices only to then offer me a "discount."
Summary:
- The sales rep lied through his teeth.
- The service people didn't care about the appointment time.
- The "manager" who tried to give me a "discount" also lied about the prices. And, finally:
- None of the existing Google/Nest equipment works with ADT+; oh, and they don't support ANY smart locks.
Would you consider doing business with this company? Right, neither did I. What a shame. A total disgrace.
3/3/2025 :: And Then Came the Billing Scam
After all this, back in 2024, I made it 100% clear that I did not want to continue with ADT’s service. I called, emailed, and submitted cancellation requests through their website.
And yet, ADT ignored every single cancellation request and charged me anyway. They knew I canceled. They just took the money anyway.
Now, instead of simply moving on, I’m forced to jump through hoops to get my money back—disputing the charge with my bank, filing complaints with the FCC, FTC, the Georgia Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division, and the BBB—all because of one huge mistake: ever considering ADT in the first place.
This isn’t just frustrating—it’s predatory. ADT sets people up for failure, making cancellation nearly impossible and then forcing customers to fight for their own money. Never again.
My doorbell camera has been out for 3…
My doorbell camera has been out for 3 months. I live in Illinois where temperatures are regularly between 30 degrees to well below zero during the winter months. The doorbell camera is destroyed once temps reach 30 degrees. I would not have gotten this camera had I been informed of this. Additionally; it's impossible to get a repairman to come out with a replacement.
