I'm not one to write bad reviews, by my experience with ADT was one of the worst ever.
I would stay as far away from them as possible if you are looking at home security options. They are losing market share for a reason

I called to cancel my service in February, after a 2 hour phone call I was told the process was complete. I just received a past due notice because they failed to turn it off and have no record (and basically accused me of lying...they can see I talked to tech but not account sevices) and now they would like me to pay for the two months of service (that I was told was cancelled)

I would give ZERO stars if I could. If you want a company who gives you the runaround, suckers you into long contracts without telling you, and has customer services reps that couldn’t care less about you and just speak from a worn out, regurgitated script, ADT is the company for you! The technician that installed my system over 2 years ago cared more about making inappropriate jokes than explaining what exactly I was getting myself into. I should’ve been more inquisitive and careful about what I was signing, but it shouldn’t have to be that way. There is a reason ADT wasn’t/isn’t fully transparent. I am cancelling service and I am now facing almost $2,000 in early cancellation fees because for some unknown reason, I was given a 60 month contract instead of the industry standard of 36 months. So, it’s pretty clear that ADT only keeps their customers out of debt, not loyalty. Look literally ANYWHERE else for a security company. Alcom is the company that I will be using in my new construction home (the builder installed a brand new, top of the line system in the home), and I have received better customer service from them in a day than I have from ADT in 2 years.

My wife has now waited in on three separate days for the engineer only to no show. This once great company is a shadow of what it was how it remains in business I don't know. This is my last attempt with them, I will have the alarm taken out and cancel the contract, one star is one star more than they deserve

Really didn’t want to give them any stars. Purchased adt+. for couple of weeks. Couldn’t get into my account because of password. And Everytime I changed it. It locks my account. Spoke to 10 people. After the 6th one tried to get a return. They make up so many excuses to get you to keep it. I still can’t login and none of my items working. The camera working because after the 5th person I talk to finally told me to download Google nest. Horrible service all way around.
Suckered me into a 3 year contract!
Suckered me into a 3 year contract at $59/mo. By the end of the contract I was somehow getting charged $74/mo for like 6 months. Called to cancel once my contract expired and chose the option for someone to call me since their wait time was over an hour. Got the call back and told the guy I wanted to cancel. He said he would put me on a quick hold and cancel my account. He then TRANSFRERRED ME to another dept that was not a cancellation dept. After 10 min on hold I finally got a guy who could not help me and transferred me back to the cancellation dept. I have now been on hold waiting on that dept for over 40 min!!! I WILL get this service canceled, but highly do not recommend this service. They have the worst customer service in the world and has been an extreme waste of time. Do yourself a favor and buy some $200 blink cameras and call it a day.
ADT NOT RECOMMENDED
If I could put 0 stars I would. I've had nothing but problems with ADT equipment since day One (Feb 2022). Local management is a joke and wont call or take care of business when needed. Multiple days off work for tech support on the phone and in person and they call late or don't show up. Your told one thing on the phone and something else when the tech calls or comes. Equipment set up is useless and not what I wanted. All equipment should link and it doesn't, it is all separate. ADT is a big company and should have better equipment and set ups. I was lied to on initial install for the "sale" once things were signed and installed come to find out things don't work how I wanted them too. I've worked with many alarm companies much smaller than ADT with better equipment and better technologies for set up. Working with ADT has been a nightmare and I would not recommend them to anyone.

I experienced very poor customer service from this company after they acquired the home security company that I used for 20 years.
We had so many difficulties, we went to another local provider and forfeited our advance annual payment. While on the phone to make the cancellation, the agent advised that despite the fact that we had several months of service that was paid for and we would not be using, there would be an additional 232.50 due to cancel... HUH?
Plus they wanted us to renew for 3 more years and a price that was over 30% of our current contract.
We needed all of our motion sensor and glass batteries replaced and we called to schedule the service appointment ( which we expected to pay for this service) they scheduled us for next day service at noon! Wow...they sent a salesman to AGAIN upsell us into another 3 year contract. ( What is the liability if our equipment failed and we were at harm because they did not understand our concerns that we were getting battery fails and we needed this corrected?)
You know their is major confusion in a company as over the past several weeks, I have received 5 calls from ADT asking me why I cancelled... Really? On the 5th call the agent said she could give me monitoring for $9.95 a month for 12 months if I came back??? Really?
I told them that if they offered the service for FREE, I would decline the offer.
This is what usually happens (in my humble opinion IMHO) when a HUGE company acquires a small well run business. We previously used Ackerman Security and they were the BEST! The owner was totally involved in the business and they were GREAT.
I would not be surprised if ADT loses many more customers that were with Ackerman... everyone on my block seems to be making a change.
I wont disclose who we contracted with, but we are very happy to be AWAY from ADT.
ADT does not care about long term…
ADT does not care about long term customers at all. They only care about money. I have been a customer since 2005, and in 2020 I had cameras put in and had to sign a new contract. The cameras do not ever work and they refuse to let me out of contract even though I never even use the alarm system. They tell you they will lower the bill and then still charge you the normal rate. I will never use or recomment ADT again.

with you. I'm about to speak to our Churches in South africa ( we are 104 Churches) who have contracts with You to start Canselling their contracts immediately.

I was offline for over 10 years and did not know it. They do not care about your security, as they do not check to see if you are connected EVER. It is all your responsibility though you pay them every month.
If you have dropped your landline, please make sure you have gotten a cell signal option from them.
As for the nice talk to customer service response by ADT - I have already talked to ADT customer service twice. They keep quoting that it is the "customer's responsibility to make sure that the system is working" and that it is "in the contract" so ADT will NOT REFUND money FOR SERVICES NOT PROVIDED!!!

I have not been happy with ADT since day one I wish more then anything I could get out of this contract, I've been lied to and mislead by several reps. From the contract monthly charge to now the length of the contract, Also promised a visa card for signing up! Never happened. Now my ring doorbell isn't working because I have a internet service and I'm unable to reset it my self and now I'm being charged for someone to come out to rest and put back up for me. So now it's up to me to figure it out. I hate ADT I wouldn't recommend them to anyone they aren't helpful it's all about the money to them.

Don't be fooled by ADT folks. Prior signing the contract, they will bend over backwards for you. But once it's signed, the customer service is horrible. There are plenty other companies out there, I definitely cannot recommend ADT.

Horrible customer service
Horrible customer service, hard to understand. The customer service representatives I spoke with sounded like they don't care about their customers and just talked like their jobs are unimportant. I respect every profession and understand there's no easy job, but you also have to put some interest.
I called, and they told me I had to pay for an amount, and the next day I called, they told me I had to pay twice more as the day before. Please buy your own cameras and set up your own system. These people want your money.
Wish I could give them zero stars
In all of my 47 years, I've never experienced such consistently horrible customer service. ADT even disconnected my service by mistake at the time I needed it most (after a crime occurred at my residence), and I spent more than 6 hours on hold, being transferred, and trying to find someone who could restore it. Services were restored but only partly, and I gave up. They are not available for any real help after office hours, and the first person who answered each call was never able to help. It took at least half an hour on hold (every time I called) to reach a second person. I have asked to speak to a supervisor twice and was told they don't have supervisors. I can believe this. Like I said, the service is horrible and it takes 24 to 48 hours to accomplish even the smallest task. Do not sign a contract with this company.
Updated: I have spent more than 15 hours on the phone with ADT in the last month, and nothing has been accomplished. I can't even get service disconnected at a house I no longer own. I closed my credit card account. If they don't get payment, surely they'll disconnect?? I don't know what else to do. Please don't enter into any agreement with this company, and don't let your friends do it either.
Shoddy Equipment
Shoddy equipment breaks frequently, sends false alarms, and frequently renders the system unusable. The doorbell camera doesn't work below 35 degrees Fahrenheit, which is no good when you live somewhere that gets cold weather in the winter (more than half of the US).

I have been off-line for over a week now I have reached out to them and they said they may stop by when they get in the area. Don’t waste your money on this company. It’s like stepping back in time first of all all our timing is on army time I was not in the army Takes forever to pull up live actions by the time you get it, the live action is gone totally disappointed in the service

Long wait times, price no longer makes much sense for what is offered. Equipment is expensive and always needs service or replacements.

I called for technical support and spoke to an associate by the name of Alex after explaining the problem he didn’t offer to help me instead he started quoting all time frames of recording so I realized we were getting no where I decided to end the session and called back hoping to get someone to listen to the problem and help me, I was greeted by an associate by the name of Clarissa, I explained the issue and she immediately walked me through logging into my account and assisted me in creating a new recording rule very gratefully my system was working properly this associate deserves to be recognized for her knowledge and great customer service skills, Alex on the other hand needs training on his listening skills and customer service skills after all it’s the customer that pays for your service which pays your associate!

ADT installed a Hikvision NVR (Chinese made) in my home. They are aware that the system is blocked by the U.S. government. These NVRs no longer are permitted to transmit camera displays remotely. I called ADT and I got the run around. My representative Mark Johnson doesn't return my calls or messages. Been trying to reach him over a month now. The IT department says this sales representative behavior is typical and tolerated by ADT. Once they get your money they go stealth mode and good luck getting someone to returnacall. I am still trying to get this issue resolved. Buyer Beware!
