The absolute worst customer service a…
The absolute worst customer service a company can provide. Five + phone calls to cancel a service and still can't get the bills and the credit card charges to stop. The only thing I get is more phone calls from sales people begging to transfer the service, which I don't need. It's truly unbelievable.

Their contracts are a joke and they scam people
I would never recommend ADT to anyone. When you cancel their service, they are going to scam you and make withdrawals from your account and say that it has to do with being part of a contract and if you canceled the account they're going to say there's no way they can refund you because you no longer have an account. You can talk until you are blue in the face and it just does not matter. All I wanted to do was cancel an account that I've been paying on religiously for 8 years and they had to turn around and squeeze out another $24 dollars from me for the final month after my cancelation and then another $1.93 for the next month which to me makes no sense, but they seem to think it does and there's nothing they will do about it. They will put you on hold for hours to try to get this reversed it's not worth it so to save yourself just don't ever get ADT to begin with. I called them to cancel in the middle of November so that should have canceled the bill by the middle of December if I'm going with their 30 days. Somehow yet they turned around in January and charged me again. Since I cannot prove the day that I called to cancel and their records are saying something different, there's literally nothing I can do because they dated the cancellation on the day they wanted and then that gave them the right to prorate another month even though I have not been in my house since the middle of November and not anywhere near the ADT system. Complete scam and they should be ashamed of themselves!!! After this complaint, they posted the response with their concerns and wanting to fix things but got the same result. They are a complete joke and not willing to take care of their long-term customers. My review also sparked up a random call from a person who installs ADT systems so they wanted to know if they could come install a system in my new home. I gave them a big HELL NO!!!

Very hard to cancel
They make it very, very hard to cancel. You know those types of companies. ADT is one of them. Avoid.

Extremely difficult to get problems addressed, repeated problems…
Extremely difficult to get problems and issues resolved, and they show no culpability for their problems. Repeatedly transferred through long phone calls and chats, averaging 60-90min each, often to eventually have someone tell you an issue is or will be resolved and then it never is. I've received incorrect guidance to address technical problems, equipment mailed to my house it was the wrong equipment for my system, reports that equipment was mailed ,which was then never actually mailed, as well as repeated issues with the equipment. Contracts are predatory where there is always a cancellation penalty even if they are not upholding their end of the service, ie ability to maintain a functioning system. They weren't this bad years ago, but are now.

Worst customer service experience ever
Worst customer service experience ever. just needed mobile phone access to turn alarm on and off. spent over an hour on AI, chat, customer service on the phone, downloaded 4 apps only to finally tell me they need to install a new piece of equipment. And when I asked about pricing, my monthly monitoring fee would "DOUBLE" just to be able to turn alarm on and off with my phone.

Trust their 1 star rating!
Judging by their overall rating of 1 star, I’m guessing leaving a review doesn’t help them improve much but I hope this helps other people think twice before choosing them as a provider. We are extremely disappointed with ADT. We signed up in February for a rental property, choosing a package that was explicitly marketed as easy to relocate. Knowing the rental was short-term, we purchased the equipment with the understanding that moving the service would be straightforward. Since November, we’ve spent countless hours on the phone trying to relocate our service to our new home. Each time, we were told a relocation ticket had been submitted and someone would call us back but we never received a single return call. Despite multiple tickets and repeated follow-ups, our service was never activated at the new address. Throughout this process, we continued paying our monthly monitoring fees and equipment charges, even though we had no active service. We repeatedly requested to speak with a manager and were told that was not possible. We weren’t seeking discounts or special treatment, we simply wanted the service we paid for. After months of frustration, we ultimately canceled our account, only to be informed we had to pay the remaining equipment balance (nearly $700) just to end communication with ADT. This experience has been exhausting, disheartening, and entirely avoidable. We hope ADT improves its customer service and follows through on commitments, because no customer should have to spend this much time, money, and energy just to receive basic service.

Adt what a terrible serviceas a low battery that keeps…
My monitor has a low battery that keeps beeping on and off. They gave me a tech to help me and she couldn't get a code to shut the thing off. So she decided to send a technician on December 23rd but he never showed up. Now I can't get a technician till January 15th. This is one of the worst services I've ever had to deal with and I would suggest that no one go with adt

Don't fool with adt plus. The other reviews are right. I should had took heed of the reviews. I gave them a try it's the worst experience I ever had with an alarm company. They are not worth your time. TRUST ME. I had to contact action 9. ITS THAT BAD

Dont trust ADT to work with you
Dont trust ADT to work with you! Im in healthcare and they only have m-f appointments in a 5 hours time frame. If your single you will have to take off work to wait 5 hours for a servicemember of adt to show up. If you have friends or family you dont have to take off but you have someone that doesnt live there wait in your house 5 hours, if possible. Most people are working and long hours. than they charge you 160 Dollars to just change some batteries, in sane in the membrane! Why cant they have a saturday appoinment to cover and help more people like myself who work long hours m-f and not wait for 5 hours for someo0ne to show up. They have to do better and keep up to the times. i will be sure to let all healthcare persons know not to get ADT cause they wont help you!

Y'all suck
Y'all suck! I called to cancel a fall alert bracelet back in April and NOBODY actually canceled it! Now I'm getting FOUR OR FIVE COLLECTION CALLS A DAY FOR AN ACCOUNT THAT WAS CANCELED MONTHS AGO!!! I've been threatened. I've been harassed. Now I need to pay because NOBODY AT ADT DID THEIR JOB??? Do not use adt!! They extort money from people by not doing their jobs!!!

Subject: ADT’s Deceptive Practices, Misrepresentation, and Financial Extortion I am writing this letter because ADT has engaged in misleading, deceptive, and dishonest business practices that have resulted in harassment, fabricated charges, and threats of excessive financial penalties over services and equipment that ADT itself instructed me not to transfer. Here are the facts, clearly and chronologically. I was an ADT customer for over a year, approaching two years, before I needed to move to a new home. When I contacted ADT to cancel my service because the new home already included a security system (SST) at no cost, I was told that canceling would result in an early termination fee of approximately $1,600–$2,000 because ADT claimed I had not completed payment for the equipment. ADT then presented an alternative. If I transferred service instead of canceling, the early termination fee would be waived and I would simply continue my monthly payments at the same rate. I made it clear that this was not ideal, as it required me to continue paying ADT even though my new home already had a free security system. However, under pressure and to avoid the large early termination fee, I agreed to transfer service. I then asked whether my existing cameras would be transferred to the new home. ADT stated that cameras are not transferred. I was told that ADT does not remove cameras and that I would have to remove them myself if I wanted them taken down. I was also told that if I wanted those same cameras reinstalled at the new home, I would need to ask the technician whether he could do that and that a fee would be charged for reinstalling them. Given this information, I was strongly advised that most customers simply leave the cameras behind and allow ADT to assess the new property for equipment needs. After moving, an ADT technician came to the new home. Contrary to what ADT customer service had suggested, the technician advised that I did not need new cameras, since the home already had SST cameras at no cost. ADT installed only minimal equipment: a limited number of window sensors and a smoke detector. No ADT cameras were installed, and ADT is not monitoring my home with cameras. Months later, my husband began receiving repeated calls from ADT claiming we owed approximately $2,000. When I contacted ADT and explained the full history, the issue was escalated to management. Instead of resolving the issue, the manager proposed what he described as “help,” which consisted of offering a short-term discount on my monthly bill, followed by adding back charges for the cameras that were left behind at the previous home and never transferred or reinstalled. When I refused this proposal, I was told that canceling service would now result in charges totaling nearly $6,000, including alleged equipment charges and penalties tied to a new contract—despite the fact that ADT did not install cameras at my new home and is not providing the services being used to justify these charges. This is not confusion or miscommunication. This is a pattern of misrepresentation and financial coercion. ADT presented false choices, contradicted its own guidance, and attempted to retroactively impose charges after the fact. I am formally disputing all alleged charges. I do not acknowledge this debt. I am prepared to file complaints with the Better Business Bureau, the state Attorney General, and consumer protection agencies, and to pursue legal action if necessary. This letter will be published publicly so that other consumers can understand how ADT handles service transfers and cancellations. ADT failed to act in good faith. ADT failed to honor its own representations. ADT attempted to collect payment for services and equipment it did not provide. That is the truth.

Avoid ADT-a money extracting company
After moving into a new place, received an ad for ADT. Called the number thinking it was ADT (not). A meeting was arrange with the sales/installation pointing out all the home's vulnerabilities and ADT solutions. $3000 of equipment later and a monthly monitoring plan, I realized the overkill for a very safe condo unit. Four months later, we unexpectedly moved away. I discovered I was stuck in a long term contract and new owners were not interested in equipment or monitoring. I did not find the service or monitoring provided added safety. Calling ADT, I discovered I was actually dealing with a subsidiary SafeStreet. All they wanted to do was transfer the service. Regrettably, I made a large financial mistake engaging with both SafeStreet and ADT. Both were excellent at extracting $ without an escape clause. It cost me $1214 to exit. Engaging was one of the most wasted decisions of my life.

Terrible Service
Terrible Service. Service never worked right. I ended up getting sick and having to move they cleaned out my account.? Never authorized a payment. I requested that they send me a bill so I can dispute the charges. They still took the money out of my account. I wouldn’t recommend there services to anyone. I am trying to get my $700 refunded now Customer service is a joke and a waste of time.

I originally had a security contract…
I originally had a security contract with Alder, and from the beginning they failed to deliver what was promised. I was charged for over two years for a system that never worked properly. The alarm would randomly go off in the middle of the night, causing constant stress and disruption. I was also never provided the cameras that were included in my agreement. I contacted Alder countless times. Each time I was told the system would be repaired or replaced, but nothing was ever done. Despite their ongoing failure to fix the issues, I continued paying in good faith, hoping they would honor their promises. After 2½ years of paying for a malfunctioning system and missing equipment, I finally stopped paying for a service I never truly received. When ADT acquired Alder, instead of reviewing the situation or attempting to resolve the long-standing issues, ADT immediately sent my account to collections—without ever contacting me to fix the system or address Alder’s failures. This experience has been incredibly frustrating and unfair. Alder failed to provide the service I paid for, and ADT showed zero accountability after taking over. I would not recommend either company to anyone looking for reliable home security or ethical business practices.

Just an update on our ADT experience
Just an update on our ADT experience. As you see in our post, ADT responds in this review with an email address to write to asking for specifics and then they supposedly will resolve your issue. We did that. And the response we got back was basically sorry we offered you the higher price and you can accept that or not. No resolution at all. I don't think the issues ever truly get resolved in that manner. It's just to make it seem like it will. Disappointing.

Referral bonus is a load of crap. Then they say management can fix it but they to say they can’t. Email promising delivery date was absolutely wrong as well. Payments been processing for weeks. Push the dang button and send my referral bonus already!

My stepfather fell, wound up in a wheelchair, and is trying an independent living facility first before going into assisted living. ADT “retention” will not cancel his contract. They require him to be incapacitated in a 24 hour nursing facility to cancel. UNBELIEVABLE. AWFUL COMPANY.

Extremely dissatisfied and unprotected
I have been with ADT since March, and I have been dissatisfied and unprotected since the start. I have been harassed and assaulted on my own property-none of which has been recorded-many alarms that were supposed to occur did not, and I have had multiple false alarms that occurred whilst inside and barely outside my home. I have called for a number of issues with the equipment. and not only was I not properly helped, I was treated poorly. The first month I was with ADT, nest aware was not even working even though I had the lead technician and a virtual assistant help me. The proceeding 5 months I called with a number of other issues but was never offered a technician visit. With all my issues, during month 7 I called again to cancel my contract free of charge. Unbeknownst to me, I needed 3 in person tech visits within the first 6 months in order to cancel without paying out of my contract. I agreed to pay off the $1350 to get out, but after checking my email it stated my total was that plus a separate $1850. I was lied to yet again, and am now left with this financial hardship amongst many other difficulties. I have called multiple times to discuss this issue, all of which ended in me being hung up on or "disconnected". Every single call lasted multiple hours on many different transfers. When I asked them about all this, every single representative said that My account was not notated by the previous person, so they are even trying to cover their own selves in lies. I'm sure you can see where I am extremely hurt and upset. ADT has preyed on me because I am young and inexperienced and because they never disclosed all this information to me, I am left in financial difficulties. I understood the value of having a security alarm to protect where I live and people I love in case of an emergency. However, ADT's equipment has failed to monitor a large number of security concerns and have had multiple false alarm reports, causing more distress than peace. ADT is predatory and their customer service is terrible.

Dishonest company and employees
I have been a customer for over 17 years and wanted to cancel in January 2025. When I called to cancel I was offered a rate half the price of what I was paying. I was told it was a permanent rate and not a promotion. I decided to stay and after 6 months the price doubled. I called again to cancel and once again was offered a lower rate and a credit for the rate increase that I had paid. No credit ever showed on my account and the new rate I was promised never came through. I called again in November to cancel and was offered the balance due to be credited and that my account would be closed. The customer service rep closed my account without giving me the credit I had been offered several times but never given. Now I’m told they can’t give me a credit because the account is closed. All of this after 2 hours being bounced around to different people always saying they want to help but will not simply apply a $90.58 credit because they didn’t see it in the notes. When I suggested going back to the “recorded customer service phone calls” to prove that I was offered the credit, they would not. And to make matters even worse, I found out in November that my system isn’t even working and they have been charging me for years n a system that needs upgrading to work and no one ever informed me.

Found a better security service after…
Found a better security service after years of frustrating service and upon closing out my account with them, they continued to bill me without my knowledge. I was told that my account was canceled and today was told something completely different, they can't be trusted and don't have your best interest in hand. I wouldn't advise anyone to sign up with this company.

Worst Experience Ever!
I’ve been dealing with ADT since August 2025, trying to cancel our account. Despite numerous calls and confirmations from multiple representatives that our account was canceled, we continue to be billed monthly. As of today, the accounts department is now stating that the official cancellation won’t happen until January 7th, and we’re facing additional charges; a $200 cancellation fee on top of a $140 billing fees to finalize the cancellation. We haven’t had ADT service for over a year, we no longer use their services, and we’ve returned their equipment. Yet, we’re still being billed for services we don’t receive and that they no longer provide. This has been the worst experience I’ve ever had with any company, and I strongly advise others to steer clear of ADT.

We were a business customer of ADT for 2.5 years and sold our business to another business owner. ADT forced into their contract one year renewals and charge us the full fee even in the event of selling a business to another party. Disappointing! They lost a customer for life.

Their customer service is awful
Their customer service is awful. If you get on the app and chat, you sit there sometimes for hours and no one ever answers the chat then if you get on the phone, you stay on there that long very disappointed. I wish I’d never signed up for them.
